More than likely, the trucks are equipped with the Infinity sound system upgrade from the factory. This means there is an amplifier that will need to be powered up to create sound. Keep in mind, you will be amplifying an amplified signal and this can create issues. It would be a much better decision to bypass the amplifier. (Run new wire to the speakers.)
The Protect message means that the player has identified a short circuit in the wiring to the unit or that a wire is touching the chassis of the car. You need to check the wiring and either rewire the unit or insulate the wire(s) to fix the problem. Then press the Reset button (below and to the left of the volume knob). If the error doesn't clear, you need to contact a service center because the short is inside the player itself.

No ur radio is fine to fit the wiring harness into ur dodge the wiring has been crossed so it wont work, if u go 2 the Kenwood US site and down load the KDC MP 228 manual it has a good wiring dirgram and with a bit of work u can work out what goes where :0 Hope this helps
