Sony KDL 70R520A will not turn on. Part of the picture went dark. The next day it will not turn on. The standby LED blinks 5 times. I have unplugged it for several hours and it is plugged in directly (via extension cords). What does 5 blinks mean for this model number? Thanks.
The most common defect that causes a 5 blink error on this model is the T-Con board. This board is now discontinued. You might be able to find one on Ebay or Amazon. If the T-con board does not fix the issue, then your panel is defective and your TV will need to be replaced.

I would take that puppy back to store and get exchanged out. According to lemon law. Let me know what happens. Thank you Jay.

A service technician arrived at my home this morning and infromed me that 13 blinks indicates a bad LCD panel. His quote to repair it was approximately $500 more than the TV initially cost. I contacted Sony support directly, and they have agreed to replace the TV, since it is less than 30 days out of warranty. The KDL40V3000 has apparently been dicontinued so they are replacing with a KDL40V4100(factory reconditioned). I know this won't necessarily help others with the same problem, but if your warranty ended recently enough they will probably work with you to mitigate the expense.

Since the TV is still receiving power, the problem is going to be with the TV's mainboard. After you unplugged the TV and plugged it back in, you said the power light went out again, so I assume the standby light wasn't flashing again? The flashing standby light is indicating an error code so my suggestion is to contact Sony for service options regardless if there is a warranty or not because service is the only solution to this situation. Don't forget to provide them the error code or 4 flashes repeating.

I just worked on this last week 13 blinks means there is a problem with the backlights. So it can be 1 of 2 things bad inverter board( which costs less than $200) or the panel in which case you can thow the TV away as it will probably cost as much for a new TV.Unfortunately the set I worked on ended up being panel. If you try the inverter board just take your time removing it its plugged in rather tight I gently tapped it out with a screwdriver to get it started.

I am experiencing exactly the same problem. TV turns on but within 60 seconds the screen goes black and the red standby light blinks six times. Were you able to resolve this problem on your TV?
