If it has set-up code to your magnavox device, you can. Set-up (Programming) procedure is too much to type in here, and is not practical and it will differ brand-to-brand remote controls. If you wish to get more; check the sites linked here. It has set-up code list & set-up procedure to many popular brand remote controls. One among it has general set-up codes to check with TVs and other devices are given, in the order of the 'device's brand name list' in alphabetical order. Pull up older posts. Search the sites by type in the brand name to your device in its search box at the top right part of the display window. It will help you to find the document easily.

Have the first remote tested--most shops have a tester--point remote at it and press buttons and it reacts with a flash (the tester) and if remote tests good the problem could be with the remote receiver in the set

Hi, I have a few things for you to try.
1. Your TV "6424TF" seems to have problems with its IR "Infra-red" sensor going bad. This is a common problem with your model TV. If this is the case no remotes will work on your TV.
2. Because I do not know the model of your universal RCA remote I cannot tell you how to program it.. please supply the model number of it. Try looking under the battery cover. might be an "RCR..." number. I need to know this because all universal remotes have different codes and programming methods.
3. To know 100% if its your TV that's bad you will need the original remote for your TV. I have already looked up your original remote and you can purchase a brand new replacement that will work right out of the package (assuming your TV IR sensor isn't broke) here: RR0108UD for all sylvania TVs . no programming is necessary for this remote.

If you the new maufacturer remote does not work then you need to find out if the remote receiver is getting 5vdc feeding it. You will need a scope to see the digital signal from the remote receiver board.

The Harmony 600 will work with a Daenyx tv. It costs about $80.00 and codes are provided by the Harmony website during programming. The site just needs the product name and model number. I don't think WalMart would carry it but a good electronic products shop will.

whwn you open the remote package you wil find a list, search your tv in this list and folow the indicated steps describet in instruction. is simple. if you wil not find yout tv in that list, your remote isn't for this tv.

ok dont know the remote you speak of but most are the same.
select TV and SET buttons in that order a red light appears and is steady. Enter the code eg 123 and the light should go out Pres SET again turn set off using power btn then turn on again. If you entered the right code both on/off will have worked. If your remore does not have a set btn then it is a pre programmed remote and is damaged if not working with new batteries Get a Universal remote and follow the instructions to control you TV.

I assume you had new batteries in the original remote and that the Universal remote was programmed correctly for your TV.

Are there any lights on the old remote that flash when you press a button? If so, does it light?

If the TV doesn't respond to a remote, and the remote is verified to be in working order, then the infrared sensor in the TV is defective amd needs replaced.

We bought a Sylvania LC420ss8 HDTV.

Our current universal remotes would not work, I followed the advice on this site and got a Sony
RM- VL600 Sony Untergrated Remote Commander, use page 16 in the manual to teach the new remote off of the remote that came with the TV. It really works. I am happy with the tv and remote.
