SOURCE: says:ink system failed,unable to copy,fax,print

It means you are out of ink and on newer printers, it can be only one color that will cause ink failure.Check your ink levels and replace the color that is empty.

SOURCE: what does Oxc18a0106 mean - ink system has failed,

My C6180 had the same problem - eventually (within about 1 month for me) the printer would power on and off every few seconds. Apparently some defective components were used in the construction of the logic board (see photo). On my C6180 there were 3 failed capacitors (the green cylinders - the puffed top indicates failure) and a 4th from the same manufacturer (TEAPO - many unfavorable web references to this manufacturer). I purchased 3x 330uF 16V and 1x 680uF 10v rated to 105 degrees Celsius (total about 60cents). On the logic board, the capacitors I replaced are labeled C613, C614, C660 and C662. If you are not comfortable replacing the parts yourself (or don't have a soldering tool), you will have to find someone who will. The time to repair should be less than 30 min - I did it in 25 min with only a solder pen. This fixed the on and off problem and also fixed the ink system failures my printer was having. A similar fix may apply to other HP printers .acca299.jpg

How to fix HP photosmart 3310 printer Error:Oxc18a0106

someone else's answer:
If you get an error message on your printer screen (HP Photosmart C5180) which says " 0xc18a0106 ink system failed ", you'll need to carry out a Master Reset on the printer.
Something usually causes the error to occur and this is usually a failed microchip, out of date chip or interruption when installing a new cartridge and this will have to be rectified before continuing. Most problems are usually from the last cartridge inserted, so start by replacing that cartridge. You will also need to have all cartridges with some ink in them or you'll need to replace any empty ones before continuing. Once the problem cartridge has been replaced, keep it as it may still be ok to use at a later date once the error has been reset.

To reset the printer:
1- Unplug the USB cable from the printer.
2- Press the On/Off button to turn off the printer, unplug the power lead from the printer, press and hold both the "OK" button and the "HELP" button, then plug in the power lead, wait a few seconds and release the two buttons, then press the "On" button.
Your printer will now initialise and you'll need to follow the on-screen instructions and choices on the printer. This may take several minutes to complete. Your error code should now have disappeared and you will now be able to Copy and Print.
3- Replug the USB cable from the printer.
