Try cleaning the contacts on the rear of the lens and the mount on the camera - a gentle rub with a lint-free cloth is all that is required.

F-- showing on viewfinder on nikon F5

This indicates that the camera isn't communicating with the lens. Not surprising, since the 55 2.8 Micro has no electronics for communicating with the camera.
This does not mean that the lens cannot be used, however. You simply have to switch to the Manual exposure mode and set the exposure yourself.

I receive the same "errr" message. The photo shop said it was a bad contact, they cleaned them with an eraser and made sure there was good contact. Problem was slightly better, but still exists. I have to...

My theory is the plastic lens mount is not strong enough to support the lens and maintain a proper connection between the camera body contacts and the lens contacts.

This problem is widespread and Nikon needs to own up to their design flaw.

D80 kit 18/135 won't make photos 'F- -' error

Unmount the lens and clean both the camera and lens contacts (the metal strips that connect body with lens) using a pencil eraser. Take care not to let any debris fall into the camera. Mount the lens and try again.

Nikon d50 highlights problem

That's the overexposed highlights display, to warn you when highlight details may be lost. Disable it by pressing the up arrow twice. First press shows you the histogram, second press shows pic only, no other info. It will remember this setting for all photos display (until you change it).

Nikon D200 refuses to auto focus with any lens it just doesn't do anything.

Does the camera body has a M/AFswitch? it would be located in front on the left side if that accidently gets changed to M your lens will not AF any more until you change it?? I know it sounds so simple but who knows!! Barry Brown

"Lens not attached" warning when lens is in fact attached.

Hello. Check the area around the lens mount carefully - specifically the contacts. Make sure all are clean and protruding the same. If one is lower than the rest, try 'flicking' it with a fingernail (lightly) to see if it will pop up to the height of the others. It may have dirt or a particle of dust lodged. If this doesn't help, get the lens to Nikon for a check-up.
