SOURCE: Ref: Stihl FS46 string trimmer. Broken Flex shaft.

Remove orange sheild, remove single screw holding head in shaft then grab head with pliers and twist side to side until complete head is free. You should then be able to grab part of shaft. On power head loosen screws {about one turn each} that hold two white case halves near trigger,I think there are four, then there is a single torx screw on the bottom of lower case half in the middle that must be taken out to allow tube to be removed.Romove flexshaft from top.Check 4 plastic burnt to flexshaft,if there is you must replace tube liner as well, usally around bent part of tube the liner will go bad.

Bosch spark plug gap for a fs46 weeteater

Hi

Stihl recommend 0.020 (20 thousands of an inch) or 0.5 mm. Incidentally the plug gap is independent of the plug make.

Trimmer head won't rotate

Usually this is a clutch problem, the clutch is under the drum and when it engages turns the drum which turns the drive shaft which turns the trimmer head. If the drum is not turning than it is the clutch, if the clutch is turning the drive shaft could be broke, if the drive shaft is not broke than the problem would be in the gears of the trimmer head.

Cultivator spinning slow

If the blades are turning slowly while the machine is on tick-over, then it is more than likely a clutch issue. Clutch springs will stretch and occasionally break. With less resistance on the clutch shoes they grip the clutch drum and this in-turn will cause the blades to turn.

Check clutch springs.

How do you change the clutch?

Remove the side casing. (bar side)
Take off bar and chain.
Remove E-clip holding the clutch drum on.
Remove clutch drum and needle cage bearing.
This should expose the clutch.
Remove spark plug.
Use a piston stop to stop the piston rising, Sometimes a knotted piece of pull cord fed into the cylinder is just as good.
Turn the clutch clockwise with a socket to unscrew.

To put clutch back on turn anticlockwise till piston cycles back and hits the piston stop again and tighten. Replace spark plug and clutch drum, bearing, bar and chain and side casing.

Oil pump on 020 stihl

Remove the side casing, then remove the spark plug and use a piston block to stop the piston rising while you remobe the clutch, once the clutch is off, the drum, bearing and oil work should be removable, along with the 2 plastic crank coveres. Once all this has been taken off you will have access to the oil pump.
