Samsung DLP TV won't come on

I have a Samsung 50" DLP TV, model HLN5056W, that I had the lamp repaired on 2 years ago. A week ago it would not come on (either with remote or with power button on side of set) unless you unplug the tv and let it reset (best guess). It would come on and play all day long but each morning had to have this routine repeated. Finally that routine has stopped working. Service reps came out to replace lamp and found it wasn't bad. Service shop says (phone person - not tech) that it is a DMB (?) board. Estimate cost $276 for board and $379 for labor. Before I invest more money into this TV (bought new 2 1/2 years ago) does that sound like this could be the problem and is this about the cost of this type of repair?

Same thing. Had it repaired a year ago and they replaced lots of parts. It is happening again. Wow did I get ripped off when buying this hi end tv.

Only difference is i recieved this tv broken, took it to the shop and they replaced the lamp and (i believe) the ballast board. this was 9 months ago. now if i unplug it and plug it back in, i get tv for almost a minute, then the screen goes black with audio, than the whole thing shuts down and all 3 lights (top 2 green, bottom red) start blinking.and alot of people seem to have the same problem, seems like maybe a manufacturer defect?

Chris,

I had the same problem. I bought my tv at Best Buy and my warranty included a new bulb for the lamp. They only last about 2 yrs or so depending on how much you watch the tv. You can also buy replacement bulbs online that don't cost too much. BUT, you will need to replace every couple of years. The things you listed are exactly what happens when the bulb goes out. Hope this helps!

MY Samsung DLP Shuts off after 2 minutes than if I unplug it, it will come back on for 2 more minutes and than go out again. Could it be the Bulb and Ballast failing. I just replaced the bulb a few weeks...

try this..

On the bottom left corner there is a blue switch that detects if the lamp door is properly installed, if you try to turn your TV on without it won’t turn on.

Numerous white spots on Smasung DLP TV

If your Mitsubishi TV has white spots in the picture , you can call Mitsubishi @ 1-800-332-2119 and request a free DLP Chip to fix the problem. They will send the New DLP Chip at no charge to a TV Tech in your area to install it for $200 flat rate. That is about a $250 savings if you had to pay for the chip . Call them with your TV's Model number and serial number and let them know when and where you bought the TV.
It saved me some hard earned money and now my TV is like New !

My Samsung 50" DLP HDTV keeps humming when the DLP lamp comes on.

Hi, you have one of two problems, either the color wheel is going or one of the cooling fans are going, the color wheels are a very common problem in samsung dlp`s, sorry I can`t nail it to a specific part but I`d bet it`s the color wheel as they are notorious for failing in samsungs, video-tek

Worked a charm on my 50" Samsung DLP. Read thread carefully as there are 2 different version of the DMD chip you will need to replace. I ended up fixing mine for less than $165!

50? Samsung DLP TV Model #HLR-5067W

Did you use an original replacement lamp or an aftermarket replacement? From the price you give, it sounds like an aftermarket lamp, which are notoriously buggy and the problem may be with the lamp. If not, the lamp driver is your next likely culprit. It is also called a lamp power supply or lamp ballast.

I have a solution for The United States of America! "If We Don't Make It, We Don't Need It".

Personally, I believe if we went back to actually manufacturing things in this country and stopped importing everything, a lot of these problems would STOP!

Think about it America!
