The alert light is red and the printer won't print. On the display it says, SC 542. I found instructions on line to help clear this error for the sp 3510 but those instructions can't work for a sp 3510dn because it does not have an online button. I found instructions on how to clear the error on other aficio models by entering the number 107 but sp 3510dn does not have a number key pad.
You need to switch the power switch off.
Hold down either the online & escape or stop/start & escape while switching the machine on.
The machine should start up in service mode.
Select 1 for service mode
Select 5 for mode
Scroll to 810 SC reset and select enter
Select execute.
Switch machine off and on again.

SC542 is a warm up error from the fuser.
SC 870 is an address book error.
Turn the power off on the copier. Wait 30 seconds and then turn the power back on. See if it goes away.
Let me know if it doesn't.

If you've done all of those steps and the problem keeps happening, it's most likely a dirty or defective thermistor, or a blown thermostat. The simplest solution is to replace the fusing unit as a whole, but if you want to save money, you can take the fusing unit out (the black unit on the upper right side, the one that heats up) and using a multimeter, determine if one of the thermostats is bad. Also, check the thermistors (the sensors that lay against the hot roller) for any built-up toner, and check the continuity of the fuser lamp while you have the unit opened up.
