It keeps typing on the same spot

HI.. the hammer solenoid may be faulty..it should make a typing sound when you hit a key.( the printhammer moved and strikes the printwheel) or when you changed ribbons you might have unlatched the printwheel..there is a lever you press to relatch it until it "clicks"
If not that then make sure the ribbon is seated correctly, that it is between the printwheel and the black roller.Also visually inspect the ribbon so it is not caught in the printwheel.

Make sure ribbon you have if for the typewriter you have. take ribbon off machine and type characters, you should see the small ribbon (black) part that turns the ribbon move. If not you have a problem in the printer carrier itself...

I bought the ribbon and it did not work so I took it back got another
one and it still will not type

check to see that when yu replace the ribbon it has not slipped in front of the print ribbon and that you have not got the button for corection pressed by mistake it is using this to print you letters not the ink ribbon

With power off, remove the ribbon and look down inside the carriage assembly on the right hand side. Look close and you will see a white gear, you rotate that gear, either way about 1/2 a revolution. Power on and try typing, if it works you can put in the ribbon and go, if not, rotate the gear somr more.
