LCD TV-Vizio e500-bi backlight intermittent

The picture will drop out ever 3-5 minutes to a black screen for about 30sec before coming back. After closer inspection the picture is drops out to about 98% (so very faint image) then to full black. Pulled the TV apart and there are no components blown up or obviously smoked. What component would be causing this? How and what should I be testing? Is this more likely the backlight inverter or the backlight itself? Your help is very much appreciated!

Check and replace damaged component/s at its back-light inverter board, or replace this board as card basis. If you wish to get some details; check the site linked here. Surf the site with patience. Pull up older posts. It will be best to replace the inverter board as card basis.

To some model sets; especially LED back-lighted types; the back-light inverter circuit will be part of the main power supply board [SMPS]. In such cases, the power supply board might need replacement. To some models sets, the back-light inverter and SMPS section circuit will be integrated at its main board itself. If so; the main board should be replaced. To some models of sets, all these section circuit will be integrated at its main board. If this is the case, you have to replace the main board.

Vizio modelE55-E2, 55 inch tv goes black after turned on?

There could be several reasons why your Vizio TV goes black after being turned on, including a malfunctioning power supply, a damaged display panel, or a faulty backlight. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot the problem:
  1. Check the power supply: Make sure that the TV is properly plugged in and that the power outlet is working. You may also want to try plugging the TV into a different outlet to see if that solves the problem.
  2. Check the display panel: If the TV is getting power but there is no picture, the display panel may be damaged. Look for cracks or other signs of physical damage to the screen. If you find any damage, you may need to replace the display panel.
  3. Check the backlight: The backlight is responsible for illuminating the screen, and if it is faulty, you may experience the symptoms you described. Look for any signs of damage to the backlight, such as flickering or uneven lighting. If the backlight is the problem, you may need to replace it.
  4. Reset the TV: Sometimes resetting the TV to its default settings can solve the problem. To do this, unplug the TV from the power source, wait a few minutes, and then plug it back in.
  5. Contact Vizio customer support: If none of these steps solve the problem, you may want to contact Vizio customer support for further assistance. They may be able to provide additional troubleshooting steps or help you arrange for repairs.

I have a vizio d65u-d2 i turn it on and after 5 minutes the screen goes black it still has sound though any ideas as to qhat it could be?

Let us know what exact model this is. It is possible that this is caused by a bad power board which then causes your backlight to turn off, but can also be a T-con or main board issue. Let us know if only your picture turns off or if you lose sound as well and if the picture comes back on. You do want to try to reset your TV. Unplug it and push and hold the power button for about 30sec-1min then plug it in while holding the power button depressed. If that does not help, remove the back of your set and post some good images of your boards with your question. That way we can see what you see and could try to assist you further.

When the picture is dark, show a torch light on the screen from a safe distance. If you can see the picture, the backlight is the problem. Anyhow, it is better to show it to a qualified service technician.
