SOURCE: My remote wont change channels
> I need to use the cable remote to change the channel and the TV remote to change volume.
That is because your TV is looking at the output of the cable box (probably on channel 3 or 4) so the TV has to be statically tuned to see the cable box's output.
On the second question; I, and perhaps others, can't answer this without spending a lot of time to download manuals for both systems while you have them (presumably, since they are new) on hand.
You didn't include the TV's model number anyhow so even that wouldn't be adequate.
The home theatre may have a receiver but what does it receive? Unless it also has channel capabilities that correspond to cable channels, it can't.
The typical routing should be from the cable box to the TV S-video input and the sound can be routed separately from the cable box to either/or both, the home theatre's and also the TV's audio inputs.
When I am installing new stuff, I make a sketch of the routing I want (or have) to use.
To me, this is less confusing than the supplied instructions.
SOURCE: Newer Jvc tv wont turn on
1. hold the [vol-] and [menu] button.
2. while holding those, press the [power] button and let go of the [power]button only
3. wait 5 seconds then let go of [vol-] and [menu]
4. wait for a while(approx 30secs).....do you get a picture
This works for the JVC models that end in "9" and end in "0"

I have come across that problem about 8 times in the past, only solution to your problem is to have the main board replaced.
SOURCE: JVC 40 inch LCD digital inputs (1 and 2) no longer
This TV has a sensor that deactivates the inputs when light is sensed. perform this procedure to correct it:
1. press "Sleep" button on the remote
2. while "Sleep timer 0" is showing, simultanuously press "display" and "video" button on the remote
3. you should be in the Service menu of the TV....if not you should do the steps again
4. select "self check" from the displayed options.
5. when the "self check" menu is displayed, Power off the TV.
6. unplug and replug the TV.
7. Check the digital input.
if the input never worked for you, it is possible that you have the DVD/Bluray/whatever set up incorrectly. I don't think this TV accepts 1080P resolution so make sure it is set to 1080i or lower

Do you have an antenna hooked up? Did you scan? How close is your closest repeater? Is your antenna capable of reaching such a distance?
If you're talking about cable or satellite call them and have a tech go out and fix it.
