Hello Cesino Smith,

It is my BEST advice to get your GENERIC part number off of your ORIGINAL PARTS LIST... (TOP LATCH item #29 )

Contemporary internet (SEARS) WISDOM says your part... #29 on your parts listing diagram (top latch) WPW10619844... THEY SAY "It appears your part number is no longer available"...

I say... They are wrong...! At the bottom I have listed more options (on-line parts suppliers)... Bountiful on eBay...!!

It is a VERY POPULAR part... (read: serious problem area).

You need to talk to these listed parts houses (below)...

This is a difficulty 2 (pretty easy)... job... AND there is a GREAT VIDEO on the appliancepartspros.com (first URL at the bottom).

Your latch connects inside the control pod at the top of your machine... (opens from the back)
The top is hinged at the back & held by SPRINGS in front.

It is NOT as easy to coax the TOP OPEN.. as the video depicts... but if you have patience ... (pulling up one side will lock the other COMPLETELY... When you finally do get it open put a little Vaseline on the front side (it will reduce the brute force require to press the top back down into place (and slow the RUST).

Your average PROFESSIONAL would just walk up and
rip the top open with a giant tug... Most times that will work... but there's the possibility of BREAKING the SPRING STEEL clip
(two) on the front of your washing machine...

(of course if they were working on their OWN machine
they do it the following way:
At about 5 1/2 inches in from each corner are spring clips
that hold your top down. wrap the tip of your PUTTY KNIFE with masking tape (to protect your appliance finish) ...

If you have an assistant ... it would be great to push both springs and lift the front

The "TYPICAL" price of your part (NEW) is around $60 to $80
PURCHASE... (rated EASY to replace)...
If you can un-plug the machine...

Have a putty knife & some masking tape...
You can check this part yourself... and not damage your beautiful finish in the process... tape your door closed before lifting the to... else you risk breaking EXPENSIVE things (possibly fingers).

According to most my generic part numbers (my opinion) ... my Kenmore Elite (110.28082700) is really a Whirlpool... Part W10059230... IS the SAME as your WPW10619844

While I don't ordinarily (ever) recommend SEARS for anything but a pain in the posterior... Their parts are GETTING competitive... so I will include the into the parts house recommendations at the bottom... (there are a couple of good folks at Sears... I'm sure... I've met 2 (two)).

appliancepartspros.com will also be included...
even though the choke on your MODEL Number...
Current models seem to all be suffix with
an ADDITIONAL 0,1.2 or 3.. after the WTW6400SW...

I believe YOUR NUMBER simply because I have had a couple of occasions to have "parts technicians" squabble (SEARS) with me ... over such trivia.

(Hence the importance of SEARS and their guaranteed fit).

Good luck with that...

Always get three estimates
(which will TYPICALLY eliminate SEARS)...

Comment me back if I missed anything!!

I lost Power from a Thunder Storm and now my Whirlpool Cabrio top loader won't open

Hello,
Thats sounds as if the lock asm is stuck. As soon as the power went off the lock would have de-energized and should have opened.

Too check the lacth for sticking open the top by placing a putty knife in the seam between the top/front cabinet panel at the corners and push in to release the clips that hold the top to cabinet then raise top and see if something appears to be stuck on latch asm.

What would you recommend for a good super capacity top loader washer? My 15 year old Whirlpool just died. Don't really trust electronic controls, reviews of he top loaders are so mixed, I am unsure. Also...

To be honest I really don't trust electronic controls due to the fact that the majority of the repairs i do on front loader machines has to do with the electronic controls. In my opinion top loaders are more reliable. they get the job done. If you were to get a top loader i do recommend whirlpool, even though i agree that the quality is down. I also like the whirlpool cabrio, its a top loader but has electronic controls. it uses less water and soap just like a front loader. Whatever you do decide to purchase, I highly recommend that you purchase the extended warranty. This way if there is ever a problem, you know that you are covered.
