This is because of an internal gear fault within your PS3. It is possible that someone has taken the PS3 apart before and not put the drive ack properly or there is a possibility that one of the gears inside has broken. This is not actually that hard as all you would need to do is buy a faulty blu ray drive (one where the laser is faulty) and swap over your working laser into it. This would cure your problem. The only thing you have to be careful of is that you get the same model blu ray player as there are several types. To identify the right one you need your model number of your PS3, it is on a white sticker on the back and starts CECH--.

This will be your cheapest option for repairing it unless it is under warranty, Sony have a 1 year warranty with new consoles and will replace it free of charge if it is still in warranty. If it is out of warranty Sony will want around £150 to fix it.
