Hi,
Originally the laptop comes with Windows XP Professional hence you should have no problem installing it again. I suggest you first try using the recovery disks provided. If there are none available then see if you can order them from DELL directly. If that doesn't work, download the OS software from a torrent website however use the product key already located on the underside of the computer. You should be fine.

Press F12 as you boot up the Dell and select the CD as the alternate boot device, insert the Windows installation CD in the CD drive and continue.
If you can't select the CD as the alternate boot device then go into the BIOS configuration then the Boot order and select the CD as the first boot device, save and exit. You can change it back after Windows is installed if you wish.

Windows XP Pro logon issue

There should be a product key on the bottom. As long as there is you can just download a copy of XP from digitalriver.com and use that key. Burn the iso file downloaded on to a disc and boot to the disc and follow the prompts to install XP.

I formated my Dell latitude D600 and installed windows vista. As a result, the wireless lan stopped working. I have tried running different drivers to re-instal the wireless yet it has refused to...

Dell does not provide Vista drivers for the D600 because it is too old.
(See: http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/driverslist.aspx?c=us&cs=04&l=en&s=bsd&os=WW1&osl=en&SystemID=LAT_PNT_PM_D600&catid=-1&impid=-1)

I see two options:
Purchase an add-on Vista-compatible wireless adapter (USB or PCMICIA).
Go back to XP. It will run better than Visa on the D600.

If this helps please vote for my solution.

I have a Dell D600 and I cannot install Windows XP on it

Format your machine to its orignial OS (XP Home). There are some limitations that some of machine wont able to carry. The XP Professional might not compatible with your machine. That's why you encouter hang-up from your machine.

I want to put a 250 gig hard drive in a dell d600 but the bios a16 dont support that much what do i flash the bios with I know they do it as for they are for sale all over ebay with 250 gig.

Dell D600 have EIDE interface not SATA.

If you found EIDE or PATA interface for D600 with 250GB....when you install it divide the partition into 2.(100GB for windows sytem) and the rest will be your second drive.

here is the link for your BIOS upgrade:

Problem with network drivers

Click Here which will take you to the dell support and drivers page. Select the drivers you want and download them to a pen drive, and then install them to the D600. :)
