Check that the thread has not wrapped around the thread spool pin or one of the thread guides. Something is holding the thread from unwinding from the thread spool. Old style thread spools also have the small slit to hold the thread tail which will tend to catch the thread (turn the spool over). Sounds like the symptoms I've experienced with this problem.

SOURCE: Brother PE-150V bobbin thread

For embroidery, and zig-zag, and because the needle makes side movements, it needs more needle thread.
So try to keep you needle thread not very tight,
and tight up your bobbin case tension more, so that the two threads meet under the meterial.

SOURCE: Upper Thread Breaks!!!

Hi, here are some reasons why the thread is breaking :-)

  • Threading is not correct.
  • Thread has a knot in it.
  • Thread tension is too tight.
  • Needle is bent or blunt or has a sharp eye.
  • Needle is wrong size.
  • Needle has been inserted wrong.
  • Needle and thread does not match.
  • Starting to stitch too fast.
  • Thread take-up lever has not been threaded.

  • Hope this helps.

SOURCE: I have a Brother PE 770. All was well, fairly new

here are some suggestions to try
it's may be the needle, it could be bent or blunt

it is possible that it could be the timing,,,, but first try changing the needle & try rethreading the
machine the top thread & bobbin also

make sure the bobbin is in the bobbin case correctly & that the bobbin case is correctly inserted into the machine correctly

check to see if there are any burrs on the needle plate
clean out from under the needle plate
also make sure the bobbin area is clean from lint or loose threads

SOURCE: I have a brother pe 770 and the bobbin will not

You need to sew the first stitch slowly. Lower the needle by hand and take up carefully. Pull the needle thread up and the bobbin thread should be caught in the formed loop and come with it. Pull them both to the back of the machine and sew.

SOURCE: how do i fix the timing on my pe770

Timing this machine is not so easy but if U want to try... Remove the left bottom panel (one central screw), and look under. U will see by the rear the vertical gear making the hook turn. At the bottom of this gear, U will see a small allen. Slack this allen screw, LEAVE A TENSION ON THE ALLEN SCREW: eitherway the hook will not follow the gear when U bring back the assembly to retight the allen screw.
U can now turn the hook on the gear, allowing to change the timming.

Send the needle completely down and when it come up, the point of the hook has to arrive at 2.5mm. on the top of the hole on the needle.

A TRICK : It might be easier to slighly change the position of the needle in the needle bar. Check the timing and try to correct it but lowering a little bit the needle before tightening the scew, or cut a little bit top part of the needle with a grinder.

My pe 770 brother machine. Why is it that the thread breaks all the time I want to use it

Usually misthreading, however, it could also be something else, ie needle, old or bargain bin thread, tension, burr or snag.

    Why is my thread breaking

Brother 780D will not feed thread through machine.

It is very important to have the bobbin case and the top tension both right. If the thread is getting stuck there is a problem. Always thread the top with the foot up. While threading make small pulls to make sure there isn't any places getting jammed. I've attached a rule document to help you to adjust the tension of the top and bottom.

    Troubleshooting Brother PE 770

Usually this is a tension problem. On mechanical machines, you'd adjust the dial, or possibly even the bobbin tension. But on a computer machine, I don't know how you set the upper tension, sorry to say.

Sometimes it can help to unthread and rethread a machine, and I don't know why it sometimes works, but it's a simple thing to try.

But if the upper tension isn't set correctly for the work being done or if the tension mechanism, however that's handled on a computer machine, isn't working correctly, this is what happens. Bird's nest is a good way to describe it.

Sometimes lint built up in the bobbin case can cause this symptom too, but I'd assume you keep this area clean. One reason I haven't yet invested in a computer machine is because problems like this often don't have such simple solutions as on the mechanical machines.

Brother pc 8500 upper thread breaks

Check the spindle the thread is mounted on and see if it\'s wrapped around it. Sometimes thread will catch and wrap around the spool spindle and break.

Check thread guides to be sure there are no nicks that might be catching the thread or damaging it.

Replace the needle.. a burr in the eye can cause upper thread to break. Needles should be replaced often, modern fibres can be hard on them, they get dull and that\'s no help for anything either.

Make sure the thread spool is mounted on the spindle with the thread coming off as directed in the manual. Some machines only work when the thread feeds in the right direction from the spool.

It can also be a tension issue.. tight upper tension or tight bobbin tension. Bobbin tension may be adjustable manually, but it\'s pretty rare for it be a problem. Upper tension, I don\'t know. I\'ve yet to get into computer machines so am not familiar with how they set upper tension.

But the mechanism that produces the tension can wear out or break and need replacement.

Top tension with the brother Pe 770 embriodery machine

I had many problems with tension until I moved the thread spool to the back on an outside stand. Check the thread guide path for lint. If everything is good then read the manual about adjusting the tension.

Thread breaking, not even threaded in needle anymore, thread gets caught on spool sometimes

    Upper thread breaks
1.the needle may be bent or damaged--try rolling the needle on a flat surface to see if it's bent or not
Or the needle could be in backwards
    Correct needle insertion
Correct needle insertion is mandatory for proper use of sewing machine.
Raise the needle bar to the highest point, then loosen the clamp screw to remove the old needle, place the new needle in the clamp with the flat side to the back of the machine or if using a round needle--the groove in the needle should face away from the shaft.
Push the needle all the way up to the stop or as far as it will go, then tighten the needle clamp screw
    2.upper tension may be to tight--try 3 to 5
3.thread may be hanging up in bobbin case--check area for loose threads or lint
    ???
    Lower thread breaks
The most probable cause of lower thread breaking is improperly wound bobbin
1.always start with a empty bobbin
Never wind one color over the other
2.choose thread that is identical in color & type as the one to be used for upper threading
3.wind the bobbin evenly across & in layers
4.don't wind the bobbin so full that it would be tight & hard to insert into bobbin case
    5.bent bobbin--replace
6.lint built up in the bobbin case--frequent cleanings will eliminate this problem, the more often you use the sewing machine the more often it needs to be cleaned
7.thread catching on the bobbin spring or latch on bobbin case, check to see that the bobbin is inserted completely & correctly, & that you are using the right kind of bobbin

for the top & bobbin thread keep thread tails of 3 to 6 inches long pulled behind the needle before you start sewing

yes, sometimes the thread will get caught on the spool, you might think about getting a extra holder that sets behind the machine to hold those spool's that the thread get caught on, that's what I did.
