I would suspect the camera not the computer is the issue here. Have you tired it on a friends computer?

How do I connect my K7 to a 1394 socket

Hi,

Your Pentax K7 lacks firewire (1394) connectivity, so a connection to a fireware jack will not be possible without purchasing an inexpensive Firewire to USB adapter . From the manual:

Available Ports:

  • USB 2.0 hi-speed, AV out, HDMI out, DC in, cable switch, 3.5mm stereo microphone.
  • Video out: HD (1080i30, 720p30, 480p30), NTSC, PAL
  • Printer interfaces: n/a

You can connect a USB cable from the "PC/AV" on the camera to your computer's USB port with an appropriate cable to transfer image files for editing, etc. Additionally, you can send video directly to a TV with an appropriate cable via the camera's HDMI jack.

I hope this helps!

Connect JVC GR-D240ek to vista laptop

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

A firewire to USB will not work. It has to be firewire to firewire. A JVC GR-D240ek uses 4-pin, IEEE 1394 compliant Digital Video Connector [DV OUT] to connect a 1394 cable (also known as a FireWire or i.Link cable) to a laptop equipped with an equivalent IEEE 1394 port. Please note that some laptops firewire port could either be 4 pins or 6 pins.

Soon as that connection as shown above is established, you can use Windows Import Video to capture / download the videos.

Other notes (from the same Windows Help link above) :
  • You can also open Windows Import Video by using Windows Movie Maker. After you connect ... your DV camera, and your computer, start Windows Movie Maker, turn on your DV camera, put it into playback mode, and Windows Import Video should open automatically.
  • You can also open Windows Import Video by using Windows Photo Gallery. After you connect ...your DV camera, and your computer, start Windows Photo Gallery, turn on your DV camera, and put it into playback mode. In Windows Photo Gallery, click File, click Import from Camera or Scanner, click your DV camera in the list of devices, click Import, and then follow the instructions.
  • You can also open Windows Import Video by using Windows Live Photo Gallery. (This options requires you to install Windows Live on your computer.) After you connect your...your DV camera, and your computer, start Windows Live Photo Gallery, turn on your DV camera, and put it into playback mode. In Windows Live Photo Gallery, click File, click Import from a camera or scanner, click your DV camera in the list of devices, click Import, and then follow the instructions.
Verify that the laptop's firewire port is 100% up to specs and totally compliant to IEEE 1394.

God luck and thank you for using FixYa.

My canon mv30i doesnt have a usb so i cant film and so put it on my pc :(

Purchase USB to 4-Pin 1394 FireWire Adapter cable. This will be very slow to transfer but should work and is a cheap solution.

Best solution of course is to buy and fit a FireWire port and cable to your desktop computer ( if that's what you are using ) and use that to download your video using the camera's FireWire port as intended.

How can i download the contents of my mini tape onto the pc ?

you don't convert the files, you just downlod them via a firewire comnnection.

If you have a mini dv (cassette) camcorder....
Your dv camcorder needs a firewire connection (ieee 1394) in order to download video, your PC probably did not come with a firewire port, so you will have to buy one and install it, since most computers (except possibly brand new) don't come with a firewire port, your camcorder did not come with a firewire cord so you have to purchase a cord too. Your camcorder did come with a USB cord and that is used for downloading stills from your camcorder. Make sure your camera is in playback mode.
Open your editing program and choose the capture mode.

The fine print in your manual makes reference to firewire (ieee 1394) connection....

thanks.

We would like to import footage from the Panasonic NV-GS 400 digital video camera onto a MAC - is this possible

Yes, you can transfer the videos from the Camcorder to the Mac Computer.

Connect the Camcorder to the Mac Computer using i.LINK/Firewire or USB cable.

I suggest that you use the i.LINK/Firewire cable to connect it to the Computer. The i.LINK port is also called IEEE 1394 or Firewire port. An i.LINK is a black D shaped connector with 4 or 6 pins. The type of cable to be used will depend on the i.LINK port of your Computer.

After connecting the Camcorder to the Mac Computer, open the iMovie Application to capture the Videos from the Camcorder and follow the on-screen instruction to complete the transfer of the videos.

Good Luck!!!!!!!!!!!!!

How to connect panasonic nv-gs150 with dv to pc in 1394 port ?

You need to purchase a IEEE/1394 firewire. They run around $40-$55 for a 5 foot wire. The 1394 end goes into the computer and the other end goes to your AV/out port on the cam.

I need to import video from my canon zr500 to my pc

Hi!

You can import videos from your camcorder to your PC using a DV cable. Check this page from the user guide of your camcorder.

Basically, you need a firewire port and a DV cable. Most computers (new ones) already have firewire ports (or 1394 ports).

I hope that helps.

Good luck and have a nice day!

How to download my videos onto my computer

If you have an 1394 port on your computer, you may also have one on your camera. By plugging these two into the appropriate ports, you can get the process started pretty easily.

I got the Belkin IEEE 1394 4 pin Firewire. It did the trick.
