To print from your Lenovo Thinkpad tablet, you can consider setting up Google Cloud Print (if you have not done this already) and then see if you can print from the tablet. confirm that the Power adapter is ok if the A/C indicator comes ON on the LCD on the laptop. If the A/c indicator is off replace the the power pack. Else the board may be bad, replace the board.
IBM sold off it's notebook line to LENOVO. The Thinkpads are excellent business machines and for the price of a Macbook that is dual-bootable, you can really do the Thinkpad up nicely. If he was going to college for a design or music or something like that I would go with the Macbook. Since he is going for business, go with the Thinkpad.
