SOURCE: I cannot register my kindle
Usually the Kindle comes pre-registered to the name used for purchasing it.
However, to register to a different name, open http://www.kindle.com on a PC. Log in using your existing Amazon account or create a new one, following the directions on the web page.
If your Kindle was not registered yet, you can add your device by clicking on "Register a new Kindle" and enter your serial number.
If the device is registered already, it should show up in the list displayed.

SOURCE: I have 2 problems with my new kindle: 1)
I had the same thing happen to my kindle! I also recieved my kindle as a girft. I contacted amazon customer support and told them what was happening. They said that there a problem with my kindle's hardware and sent me a new kindle free of charge! They even paid for shipping! SOURCE: How do i transfer a book on my kindle to a friend's kindle?
It isn't possible to do it that way. Your friend would need to sign into their own kindle account and "deregister" their kindle.(watch for this if you buy a 2nd hand kindle - has to be unregistered). You would then need to register your friend's kindle on your own account. That would allow you to share YOUR library but not his/hers. Then of course all ebooks would have to be bought through your account. Simpler to just lend him/her your kindle.
