I have a Roma Sorrento mobility scooter. It will go areasonable distance and then loses power and goes very slowly like the batteries are dead. Turn it off for a while and it's fine again.Any ideas?

How not to lose battery power quickly

The controller can be overheating.... going up too long or overloading the weight limit(too much stuff in the basket)

Make sure the free-wheel lever is engaged and the charger is unplugged from the scooter before you try to turn the scooter on. If the battery gauge goes up when you turn the scooter on and there are no beeping sounds you should be good to go.If the battery gauge drops to the red when you try to accelerate slowly, your batteries are shot. (Typical replacement in 24-48 months).If there is any beeping when the key is first turned on then there is a problem and the number of beeps indicates the problem found by the computer during the POST. It is pretty common for the meters on the charger to either not work at all, or give an inaccurate reading. They get bounced and dropped, and they aren't that well built to begin with. Basically, just ignore the charger as long as you are getting a full charge out of it, and getting good distance with each charge.

throttle pots go bad on these often

Yes, your batteries are trashed. You need to replace them. Or take them off the chair and put them on a car charger,slow charge. They need to be up over 24VDC. If they fall under 24VDC the charger won`t recognize them and won`t charge.

Always check the battery connections first because too many times it is a loose connection or battery bolt. it would happen more if you drive it a long distance, or up a hill and the controller over heats or if you are hitting a bump. when the controller cools down it drives again.

Most scooters show a drop on the battery level meter when in use, as long as it is`nt slowing down it should`nt be a prob. I mean,when you engage the throttle you ARE putting a load on the batteries,so it`s only par for the course that the indicator would drop a bit.
