The softener dispenser tray pops up and jambs against the top of the compartment. Hard to do, but easiest solution is to take a flexible very thin metal strip-(like a metal ruler) and insert it on top off tray and try to free dispenser. Lots of wiggling and stuff. Works if patient. Other solution is to take top off, then take top off dispenser compartment. Good luck
If this is a top loading machine; then the "Lid Switch " is broken. To get to the switch, UNPLUG THE POWER CORD, standing in front of the machine, there are trim strips on each end (left and right) of the "dash". To remove the strips pop them off starting at the top and pulling towards yourself. Once the trim strips are off you'll see a screw at the bottom of each corner. Remove the screws-KEEP THEM-. Now the dash will lift up and fold back out of the way. Now you should see a curved metal piece at each corner. Use a screw driver tip and remove them. Now you can lift the metal piece that is the top of the washer. Underneath and on the right side you will see the lid switch, unplug the wires and replace the switch. Plug the wires into the new switch and put it all back together.
You will need to replace the part on the lid. This piece pushes on the lid switch letting the machine know the lid is closed. You can by pass this until you are able to get the piece by pushing a screw driver into the hole where the part from the lid went. Be sure not to push it in to hard, if you do you will have to replace the switch also. Be sure to replace the part from lid because this is a safety switch to keep hands and arms out of the machine while it's running.

Depending on your washing machine model, the drum and motor are connected by 2 plastice yellow circular pieces, with a black rubber washer in the middle with holes where the pegs or rods go into. The 2 plastic circular pieces have 3 pegs or rods if you will, that connect to the black rubber washer via 3 holes. Sometimes, one or both of the 2 plastic circular piece pegs get broken off or the rubber washer cracks and breaks apart, so that the motor will not turn the drum. If thats the case, you can purchase the 2 circular pieces and black washer piece as a set.
