SOURCE: Trying to do a full factory recovery on an M Series gateway note
If you want to do the factory recovery, 3 ways to do the system recovery
First way
1 login to windows
2.click Start
3. click All programs
4. click Gateway
5. click gateway recovery manager
6. click restore
7. select systems recovery to factory defaults
Computer will restart itself and start doing the system recovery itself, All you need to do is follow the screen

Look carefully at the hard drive that you are replacing. When you take it out of the [mine is a Compaq f750us] computer you might see, for want of a better term, a "STRETCHER" attached to the contacts/connectors, remove it. Put it on the NEW hard drive, put hard drive into computer. Try it again. I did and I did NOT get the "error" code! Why because the HD is now CONNECTED...touches the contacts..

Hi, maybe you can take a try of this rescue program called PowerSuite Golden. I came across similar blue screen situaiton on my HP laptop (win 7) and it helped me get rid of it and rescued my data back. It is an awesome toolkit that includes a boot CD and several other data rescue tools that help get your PC going even if Windows won't start or computer won't boot up at all. Hope it helps in your situation too. Regards

Well gee Ray if I had wanted a smart a** remark I would've asked for it. And for your information Ray I didn't "mess with it" to begin with & what I did "mess with" isn't anything that can hurt it. I'm not st*p*d I do know somewhat what I'm doing. So you can take your "PC Laptop Master" title & comment & shove it right up your snooty nose!
