Check the switch mounted on the motor. Two of the terminals are for the heater element operation. Other causes could be a faulty heat selector switch or timer. These components can be tested using a multimeter or ohmmeter and checking for continuity. A lack of continuity indicates a faulty switch. These are some items to consider. Hope this helped and best wishes.

SOURCE: Thermal cut-off blows and high limit thermostat is

in this case we put the lower temp thermostat in the oven at 170 degrees till it was hot and measured with ohm meter and it was open. After it cooled down some it went back to being a short. Now with this part in the dryer and the new high temp thermostat
and it blew shortly after being turned on. A possiblity is that there is a short by passing the 150 degree thermostat and the element keeps being on and causes the 350 degree thermostate to blow.

It is dangerous to do but you have to turn dryer on while it is apart and wait for limit to open up, then test. !st make sure all connections are ok. The clips and the nuts all need to be tight. If any look dark or burnt that may be your weak link. If you are sure that everything is else is working ok, a set of high limit switches is not very expensive. The voltage is 220 so if your careful you can test at each junction, but be careful..

My Kenmore electric dryer just stopped drying. .

If your Kenmore electric dryer has stopped drying, there could be several reasons why:
  1. Check the Power Supply: First, make sure the dryer is plugged in and that the circuit breaker hasn't tripped. If you have an electric dryer, make sure the outlet is functioning properly.
  2. Check the Thermal Fuse: A blown thermal fuse can cause the dryer to stop heating. The thermal fuse is usually located on the blower housing or at the dryer's heat source. Use a multimeter to check for continuity. If there is no continuity, replace the thermal fuse.
  3. Check the Heating Element: A defective heating element can also cause the dryer to stop heating. The heating element is usually located behind the dryer drum. Use a multimeter to check for continuity. If there is no continuity, replace the heating element.
  4. Check the High-Limit Thermostat: A faulty high-limit thermostat can cause the dryer to stop heating. The high-limit thermostat is usually located on the heating element housing. Use a multimeter to check for continuity. If there is no continuity, replace the high-limit thermostat.
If the dryer will not turn off, the problem could be a faulty timer or a stuck relay. You may need to have a technician diagnose and repair the issue.

WHY DOES MY NEPTUNE MATAG DRYER MDE5500AYW NOT HEAT ...AND WHERE ARE THE THERMAL SWITCH, HI LIMIT THERMOSTAT, AND HEATING ELEMENT?

All those parts are in the bottom front. TURN off the power! then open the front door and remove the 4 screw's, 2 on the hindges and 2 on the other side. Then you can close the door, and pull from the top edges of the front panel(sometimes you need a thin screw driver to free the front) the front panel will tilt forward and then you can lift it off. You will need a Ohm meter to check those parts for continuity. Make sure you remove the wires from the part you are testing.

No a kenmore 80 series dryer will not heat . if the heating elment is good & fuse is good what else could be the problem

The heating circuit is basically composed of the heating element, thermal cut-off, high-limit thermostat, cycling thermostat, and the motor centrifugal switch. The problem is very likely in the thermal cut-off and the high-limit thermostat located on the blower housing. The thermal cut-off blows when the high-limit thermostat fails and cuts power to the heating element. Both the thermal cut-off and the high-limit thermostat need to be replaced if the former is blown open. Click on the link below for the detailed instructions in troubleshooting this kind of problem.

Roper electric dryer will not heat after replacing heating element and thermal fuse. what's wrong.

It doesn't necessarily mean the heating element is busted when the dryer stops heating and the thermal fuse is not part of the heating circuit, it is part of the motor circuit. The heating circuit is basically composed of the heating element, thermal cut-off, high-limit thermostat, cycling thermostat, and the motor centrifugal switch. The most common part that causes the dryer not to heat is the thermal cut-off and/or the high-limit thermostat. Verify this condition by bypassing the said components. Click on the link below for the detailed instructions. Indicate the exact model number of the dryer should you need further assistance.

Maytag Dryer PYE2200AYW runs for a few minutes and shuts off. Have replaced heating element (as it was not heating), fuse and coincidentally power cord b/c it had melted a little due to no strain relief....

You need to check the high limit thermostat. If the heating element and thermal fuse are good, that would be the next thing that I would look at. It is attached to the ductwork with two screws and is usually a small, round, black device mounted on a flat metal base. I am attaching a photo of a thermal fuse and high limit thermostat to help you identify the component. Hope this helped and best wishes.

No heat (replaced heating element and another

It sounds like you replaced the heating element and the small thing you refer to was most likely the thermal fuse. If these are the components that you replaced, and if they are indeed good, the next thing to look at if the dryer is not heating up is the high limit thermostat. It is most likely faulty if the element and thermal fuse are good. Hope this helped and best wishes. Here is a picture of a thermal fuse and high limit thermostat to help you figure out what is what.

I have a MAYTAG MDE5500AYW drier that spins but doesn't heat up. Any recomendations?

Most dryers have a thermal fuse, which burns out when the dryer overheats, in which case the dryer will either not run at all or stop heating. The fuse is usually located on the vent duct, inside the dryer. A blown fuse will show no continuity when measured with a meter. Before replacing the fuse, make sure the blower wheel is not broken or clogged, and there is nothing blocking the venting.

Clothes dryer not producing heat

Check voltage at the receptacle first. The motor and timer operate on 120VAC. The heating element requires 208/240VAC to operate. Remove power from the unit. You can check the heating element, thermostats and thermal fuses using an ohm meter across each components terminals with one wire removed. The thermal fuses and thermostats should read zero ohms. The heating element will read low ohms (20 to 40). Successful heater operation still depends on the motor centrifugal switch being closed. Depending on the model, you need the heat circuit in the timer or electronic control to be closed.
I hope this helps you.

Dryer too hot...no cool down

no the thermal fuse has nothing to do with that, although it will open again if too hot and that may be why it opened in the first place.most high heat ,long dry times are the house ducting.try this experiment.remove your dryer from the house ducting and dry a load[it wont hurt a thing]if not as hot, then get that ducting cleaned.if still hot then make sure the inner dryer air ways are clean.your blower is spinning fine[not broken on the shaft]and also check with ohm meter,or visually that your heating element is not shorted to ground[then it by passes the cycling thermostat.if all those things good and still getting high heat i may replace the cycling thermo.but as a repairman i did not have to do that very often.most of the time it was the other possibles. i hope this helps abit God bless ,tom
