Dell 1420 the twoon touch pad don't respond and the usb ports don't respond so i cannot connect a mouse neither can use the touch pad buttons I am dead on the water help!

LOL, didn't you know windows 7 was just a tad bit better than vista? Why do you think microsoft will be coming out with windows 8 in the coming months by the fall of this year. They keep trying to get it right.

Go to Dell's site and see if there are Window's 7 drivers for your model. If not, try downloading and installing the Windows Vista drivers. Right now, you might not have a driver or a good driver.

Get online and got to www.google.com In the google search box type: "Dell Support" (without the quotes and put your manufacturer name before Support). Look for downloads and drivers. Enter your model number and operating system when requested. Download and install the Touchpad drivers and the Chipset (which has the usb ports).

Keyboard too sensative. Jumps to other pages while typing. E mails disappear while typing.

Go into the Control Panel and look for "Keyboard". Move the sliders for "Repeat Delay" and "Repeat Rate" to the left until it isn't so sensitive.
Usually this is from accidentally brushing up against the touchpad while you are typing. You can use a mouse rather than the touchpad, or you can crank down the sensitivity of the touchpad. It's settings are also in the Control Panel under "Mouse" or there might be an icon on the right side of your taskbar at the bottom of your screen to open up the properties of the touchpad.
Good luck! Post back here if you need more help.

My cursor does not move with the touchpad, only with the external mouse.

Not sure what OS you have, so I'm giving generic advice here:
under computer management or hardware, launch your Device Manager.
Scroll down the device manager to "mice and pointing devices".
Click the "+" to expand the list.
Find your touchpad on the list and right click it.
Select properties.
In the window, look for a way to enable the device.
Click OK.
It should work.

Touch pad center click button no longer works

Near your clock, you'll usually find an icon for your touch pad (probably synaptics). Open this & select mouse properties, in there look under Device Settings & try the "Reset Devices" icon.

If that don't work, Click start>control panel (classic view)>mouse.
On the Touchpad tab, make sure the 'tapping' box is checked . Click apply, click ok.

If that doesn't work, click start>run, type devmgmt.msc
and click ok.
Click the plus to expand Mice and Other Pointing Devices.
Right click and uninstall any mouse or touchpad listed.
Reboot.
Let Windows rediscover and reinstall the touchpad drivers.

Good Luck!
