I changed the lamp but still get poor color quality. I replaced lamp with another new one. Got poor color quality and set was unresponsive to remote control or manual buttons on side panel. I unplugged set again for few hours, when restarted I now get no picture(sound is good). set sounds like it cycles on/off several times then the three( timer, lamp, standby) indicator lights flash; indicating lamp needs replacement. I doubt that three lamps are bad. I can use remote to turn on set but get no picture, on/off cycles, intermittent picture bad quality and freezes black white pixelated picture, then pic disappears. Again no control of set with remote or buttons. When i try to control set with remote, the timer indicator flashes but nothing else(volume, channel) changes.I have to unplug to shut of set. Does this sound like ballast or mother board? Thanks -Scott

By poor color quality, do you mean that if you turn the color control all the way down, the black and white picture is more like black and red, green or blue - or do you have a good black and white image? If the B&W image is good, and the TV is an old (8+ years) one, maybe the mirror inside the set needs a good cleaning - especially if there are smokers in the room. If you have a B&W picture that is tinted, then you may have to go into a service menu to adjust it back to a better picture. Hard to guess the problem without more specific description of symptoms.
I'm sorry that the pictures on the TV screen is black. Based on the information you have provided, it appears that the issue is with the Lamp itself. The lamp of the TV may have to be replaced within two to three years depends upon the amount of usage.
If the screen becomes dark, the color looks unsual or the LAMP indicator on the front of the LCD projection TV flashes, it is time to replace the lamp.
Thanks for understanding. Please let me know if you require further assistance in replacing the lamp of the TV.
The Main issues with the Mitsubishi HDTVs that size are the projection bulbs in the rear. A large TV like the Mitsubishi can allow dust build up on the lamps and the mirror in the rear that projects the picture to the screen. An easy fix would be to clean off the dust off of the mirror and bulbs. You would need to go through a tough processto do this since the mirror can be quite heavy and is in an ackward place. The only other alternative would be the need to replace the projection lamps themselves which can cost any where fromm $150 - in some cases $300 a piece for the lamp itself. The Television is still a great set but can cost quite a bit right now to fix if the problem is with the Lamps. If you can afford the Lamp replacement if it is needed the set would last you another 10 years plus. If you wouldn't like to go through the hassle of repairing the set or finding a place to repair the set there are so many new sets out in the market that will give you an amazing picture and quality.
There is a mirror system and lense within, the mirror is much harder to get to... there is a chance when you were changing the bulb your hand smudged the lense... look inside when you inserted the lamp and check the lamp itself...
looks like the lamp is on its way out again, you would be better buying a plasma or lcd the quality is alot better and you wont have to change the lamps and there our non :D
your husband is correct it is most likely your color wheel very common and it will effect the picture. what will happen soon is your tv will not turn on. The cost is two possiablities. color wheel replacement 225,00 part is 80,00 complete light engine in rear cases cost is 650.00 dollars . I hope this helps
