Please always include model number of printer or anything you are asking questions on. A general answer would be to check owners manual, it should give you directions. If you don't have the manual you can try looking it up thru your search engine, or go to Google.com and put in your model number (ie: Canon PIXMA MG2520 PIXMA MG2520 Manual).
Maybe you should read the user's manual? I've reas cutomer's review at Amazon and looks users have no problem with the scanning feature of this printer. If you don't have the manual, get it from here: Canon PIXMA MG2520 Manual
Maybe these videos should give you some more info:
When you installed the machine on your computer, assuming you did a standardinstallation the scanner driver and software should also have been installed. Assuming you are using a Microsoft environment ie Windoze something, you can check your scanners and cameras folder. The MG2520 should be listed in that folder. If not - re-install it. Then go to this page:
You should be able to download the drivers from this site. click on the + to read details of each driver and instructions on download and install.
Good Luck. Canon Support Drivers PIXMA MG2520
Hmm. That model doesn't have the best reputation. Even if you just got it, try running a cleaning cycle; lines across a print usually mean either a clogged jet or debris on the print head. Less often, if it's there no matter what you do, it's a defect in the print head. Canon's Service and Support Page for the MG2520: Canon Support Drivers PIXMA MG2520
