Could be either. Perhaps the unit is overheating. Try aiming a fan at the ventilation holes and see if that makes a difference. Another possibility is that there are some capacitors that are aging. It could also be software, so check the manufacturers site for firmware updates. The unit probably doesn't require drivers, so I don't think you'll find any. The other possibility is the software you use to author the disks.
No driver is needed for the ARS-2030LD, however a driver may be needed to enable the scsi portion of the controller. Once accomplished, the drive will be auto/detected / auto-installed. I suggest you read the user manual, available here: http://dl.acard.com/manual/english/ars-2030ld.pdf
then read this page about using sata-scsi controllers: http://www.acard.com/english/fc02.jsp
If you have access to the lens clean with a tissue or micro fibre cloth In circular motions gentle 10-12 swirls and then try the drive if problem persists then your drive lens have got weak need to replace drive. You have to remove the top cover of drive with 6-8 small screws. It first stops cd reading and writing or just take a specific brand of DVDs or CDs and then It fails over time, it's normal failure behaviour. Pls rate my solution if I helped.
When you push the button to open/close the drawer, does it work,
i.e., is there electrical power reaching the drive?
Did you put a disk into the "source" drive?
Is the same disk recognized when you put that disk into any other computer?
If so, then the "source" drive is damaged, and needs to be repaired/replaced.
If you can not go into " Advance setup" then you can't update your writer firmware through controller. The only thing you can do is connect you writer to a PC, update writer one by one and put all back to tower.
If all your writers are same brand ( NEC ) , but different model, this solution won't take care you problem. In this case, two way you can do:
1, Find out what the model that you have most and buy that one from any seller, remember " Update F/W to same version.
2. Get a ACARD controller, ACARD controller can mix brand, model and firmware in one system.
I have flashed just 1 DVD drive, years ago. It was easy when you knew the trick. The download site should have told you how. You must get the firmware to read and remember the update flash.
That said, I stopped flashing firmware long ago. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. I was given this info and I pass it on. Lots of folks update, upgrade and flash their way to real trouble.
