My NEC NFL855 washing machine has started showing a E3 error message at fabric softner part of the cycle - and also there is a strange smell - what do I need to do?
E3 error is discharging water problem. ie 1.the pump not working (under bra wire will stop it spinning) or 2. the discharge hose blocked or most likely 3. the pump inlet hose from the drum is blocked (with small article of cloth or coins or similar).
To Fix:
1. Open the pump filter and check if spinning during empty/spin cycle, make sure nothing jamming or twisted around impellor.
2. Check discharge hose is not crushed or kinked.
3. Lay machine on its side, access pump and remove inlet hose assembly and remove any blockage.

always check your carbon brushes which are situated at your motor covered in a plastic covering must be at least 8ml long these start at 1inch in length may not be giving enough contact to your motor for the timer to click into action m8 but if these are ok then it will be more than likely your timer which is faulty with it not doing the water inlet valves properly
SOURCE: Fabric Softner won't dispense
fabric softener goes into the dispenser. it may be a full blown solenoid valve -or- a flapper type of solenoid valve. operation of the solenoid operates a flapper to let the softener out. go to an appliance repair site to find the solenoid - appliance parts dot com or repair clinic dot com.

According to the whirlpool FAQ's page, that is normal. They stated that at the end of the cycle, fresh water is used to clean the detergent holders. Not sure that I believe them though.
SOURCE: Fabric softner still in draw when wash finished
There is a blockage in the dispenser that is causing the prob.
Remove drawer from dispenser, and thoroughly clean every part of it, taking all the pieces out to do it.
To test it is working, put it back together, and before you put it back in, fill the conditioner compartment with water until it starts to overflow, turn water off, and the remaining water should continue to run out, until it is empty, if it does not , then it is still blocked.
Plz rate my solution.
Thanks.
