Hello jlm80,I haven’t heard back from the other poster is your problem exactly the same as described “”my washer will not start. the lock button is on but the lid can be opened.’’? I assume we have good 120VAC power at the washer service outlet. If it’s a FAV6800AW or FAV9800 are there any codes in the console display? Have you tried to recycle power to the machine? If you haven’t already done so disconnect the 120VAC power plug on the machine and reconnect after 10 seconds this is a hard reset to the machine Control Board. See if this will allow you to start a wash cycle. If that doesn’t work let’s see if the Control Board will let you into Service Mode.
This is from the FAV6800AW/FAV9800AW Service Manual board output test on page 16.
Enter Service mode; Enter / Exit Service Mode To enter Service Mode press the Enviro Plus and Spin Only keys simultaneously for three seconds or until the control beeps. The Console display will show “00”.
Access Board Output Test by pressing the Delicates key. The console display will show “ot”
The lid lock will lock and the Quick Wash LED will be lit. Will the machine allow you into Service Mode? If you can get into Service Mode press the OFF button to exit Service Mode. If you can’t get into Service Mode you may have a failed Control Board. Have you had recent storm activity in your area prior to this issue?Do you have surge protection on the 120VAC outlet powering the washer?

Ouch. Well I believe cll is child lid lock or something to that effect is engaged. You will have to find something to manually turn the locking gear or if you have a manual figure out the watts/amps and use some type of power adapter similar to that to jump the lid lock to open. Turn it off and back on and it should begin working again. But either the door lock, the door close sensor, or the main board are faulty.
Your washer lid lock button is locked and lid was not put down before it locked, which is why the light is flashing. Therefore, push the "START" button until you see the lid lock button is off (Approx 3 seconds). Once it is off, then you can put the lid down and push the start button again, which will lock the lid into place. The washer will NOT drain or wash or spin unless the lid itself is in the locked position. If you were able to get the lid down and locked and it still doesn't work, then you need a technician to replace a wiring harness. However, you mentioned that the lid lock button was flashing, therefore, it stands to reason that your lid is NOT locked down.
Is the lid lock tang on lid broken.
2.9 Lid Lock
The Phase 7 Washer uses the same lid lock that is used on
the Phase 6 series 11 & 12 machines. The difference being is that the lid is now locked for the entire cycle. When the lid is locked the Lid Locked LED will illuminate. Once the spin
has completed, the lock will release and the lid can be
opened. To open the lid during the cycle the
START/PAUSE button must be pressed, the machine will
come to a halt, and the lid locked LED will extinguish.
If the lid is left open, the machine will be unable to lock the lid
and the cycle will be halted. The machine will play a tune
and the lid lock will flash until the lid is closed and START/PAUSE is pressed.
• If the lid-lock fails in the closed position, the locked lid can be forced upwards and out of the
lock. Note: This is the only time in which we would recommend doing this.
• If the harness is damaged, the complete lid lock assembly will need to be replaced.
If the power supply is cut during the spin cycle, the machine will keep the lid locked until the rotor has ceased to turn (3 to 10 secs). Only then will it release the lock. The motor is acting like a generator and allows the lock to stay energized under the bowls inertia.
Swich off the machine, try some WD40 on the door mechanism (on machine lock, not on the door) and open & shut for a minute or two. Then try the machine, spin only just to try.
see this causes and fix it. God bless you Door or Lid Latch Assembly
If the washer lid won't lock the lid switch
assembly might be defective. This is a very common problem. The lid
switch assembly can fail either mechanically or electrically. Test any
electrical switches with an Ohm meter for continuity. The switches
should have continuity according to their design.
Door Lock Motor and Switch Assembly
If the washer door won't lock the door lock
assembly should be checked. The door lock can fail either mechanically
or electrically. Test any switches on the door lock with an Ohm meter.
The switches should have continuity according to their design.
Main Control Board
If the washer door won't unlock the problem
might be the main control board. This is not common. Normally the
problem is with the lock mechanism.
For the washer to operate the lid must be fully closed, the timer must be pulled out, and the water must be drained. The main causes for not spinning are:
Lid partially or completely open
Lid or other object has hit the timer knob and turned the washer off
Lid not locked (by the way, not on all washers) and may be not draining. Make sure the lid is completely closed. Make sure that no clothing is in the lid area.
Make sure the Timer knob is pulled out. The lid must be closed and locked for the washer to operate. Once the lid is closed, make sure the desired cycle is still selected and then press the Start button and listen for the lid to lock. Make sure there are no loose metal objects such as coins and paper clips in the lid opening area. Metal objects can prevent magnetic switches from reacting correctly when the lid is closed.
If the washer has not drained, it will not go into spin. Hope this works.....
First lid must be down before washer start spinning. Remove any obstructions in drain hose and or straighten drain hose to remove kinks. Lid or other object hit timer knob and turned the washer off - Make sure the Timer knob is pulled out. If the lid was opened with too much force when adding clothes, it may have hit the timer knob, pushing the knob in.
If a laundry basket or other object hit the Timer knob, the Timer knob may have been pushed in shutting the washer off. Washer lid is not locked (Not on All Washers) - The lid must be closed and locked for the washer to operate.
Use a flashlight to inspect the holes in tub for foreign objects like screws, nails, bra wires, etc. and remove if present.
Hellodonaldwoulla, I’m an owner of a FAV6800AWW not a GURU, this forum automated rating system is way too generous, I will try to help. Do you feel OK to try some troubleshooting? The following troubleshooting assumes you want try a possible DIY fix. “FL” code is Failed to lock, we will try a few troubleshooting steps. The following test will be done by selecting the Spin Only cycle. First test will be done in service mode. 1.This is from SM; Press Enviro Plus and Spin Only keys for 3 seconds to activate Service Mode.Access Board Output Test by pressing the Delicates key. Display shows “ot” and the lid locks should actuate locking the lid.Does this happen, do you take the “FL” fail code in this process?Hit OFF button to cancel this test. 2.I want to make sure you signal an “OP” alarm to the display. Can you select Spin Only cycle with the lid open press start.Do you signal the “OP” alarm, lid open to the display? If it does close the lid and the “OP” alarm should clear, does it?I’m checking that the lid magnet is in place and the signaling connections are working thru the left lid lock back to the control board. 3.With spin only cycle selected and the lid closed press the Start Button do both lid locks try to close and lock the lid? From your initial post I believe you throw a “FL” to the display very quickly, that is the left and right lid locks do not actuate several times before the control board displays the “FL” fail code.Is that correct? 4.This step requires you to raise the top off the washer you will need to the move the washer out several inches and you should have a helper available to hold the lid up for you.Unplug the washer from the 120VAC outlet.Use this info and the FAV6800A/9800A Service Manual to assist you.To raise the top of the machine, insert a flat blade putty knife approximately 2.5” from the left and right sides of the washer top, depress the spring tabs securing machine top to the washer base. See page 33 of the SM for putty knife insertion point. We are going to reseat the Left Lid Lock plug a couple of times into the Left Lid Lock.We are checking to see if there might be some corrosion on the plug contacts.Take a look at page 34 of the SM.Top right of the page Lid Lock/Reed Switch Removal where the persons thumb is.This is the plug we want to remove and reseat a few times. It may be difficult to do remove so be careful.Mine was very difficult to remove the first time. This lid lock is near the bleach dispenser and other owners have had corrosion issues with this left lock causing issues. After doing this and you have reseated the plug into the left lid lock a few times power up the washer and give it a try. Just to let you know don’t worry about the right lid lock, it’s signaling and control functions are in parallel with the left lid lock.I’ve had mine disconnected since mid Dec.The left lid lock is the important lid lock.It has the dual functions of signaling the control board that the lid is open/closed by the magnetic reed relay in that lid lock and the lid is locked by contact closure back to the control board in that lid lock. If this doesn’t help resolve the issue we will try removing the left lid lock to inspect if you feel OK to continue. Good luck.Rich
