Intermittent Vertical 2 inch black flicking to multicolored bar at center of screen ONLY ON THE TOP HALF of the screen on a Philips 63pf963d/37

Black bar is at times solid and also becomes see through when changes colors and at times even clears up almost completely leaving a purple, yellow hue in place of the bar. This hue-like bars, actually two of them, one next to the other are on all the time.

SOURCE: Black Vertical Bar

It will burn into the screen overtime. The Akai units have a resistor on the address board that feeds the PDP that usually has a crack in the solder on one or both ends of it. There are about 4 address boards that are right below the panel itself and the suspect one is the board right below the line that is appearing. Have someone with solder skills repair it.

SOURCE: vertical black bar on plasma screen

This is usually caused by a screen addressing fault. The location of the fault can be on the main screen driver board, or in the area for the screen address processing. It can also be matrix fault with the drive to the screen.

You will have to give the set out for an estimate. From this you can make the decision if the set is worth to service or not.
