I have a Toshiba TV 55SL417U, It won't stay on.

I have plugged and unplugged it to try to reset. When I replug it it clicks on then off. It will do the same if I use the remote. The power button won't do anything.

Hello Brian Smith,

Toshiba TV 55SL417U

The first answer to your question... left a lot to be desired... but if your read through the additional suggested answers there's some pretty good stuff in there...

What I didn't see...
Always take USEABLE pictures before going in...
You need (before getting in trouble)... You MUST
restore every wire and ribbon EXACTLY as it was... Force nothing (when removing cables)... PROPERLY RELEASE CLAMPS & CATCHES...

ALWAYS use an ANTI-STATIC WRIST BAND when touching any circuit board you care about...

eBay, AMAZON and shopjimmy.com are great sources for your circuit boards...

SEARSPARTSDIRECT.COM (I don't care for)...
is trending toward competitive...
If you have nothing better... get 3 estimates!!

ALWAYS VERIFY YOUR OWN CIRCUIT BOARD ##'s...!!

Hope this helps.

yes call the tech and have the power board replaced. In future have the TV plugged into an anti surge board to protect it ( and you from expensive repair.) I suspect you will need a new power supply fitted

SOURCE: My Toshiba 55SL417U will not come on. The led light blinks, but screen remains black. It is no longer under warranty. Is there something I could do to fix it?

Hello
The main board of your TV should be troubleshooted. It is a very skilled work, and you must have sufficiant knoledge in electronics and expereince to work with digital printed circuit boards. In most cases, the repair to this board will be immpossible, and may replace it as card basis.

SOURCE: toshiba tv wont turn on

I see so many here with no sound/nopicture issues:

ISSUES:

1. IF sound main fuse/s are good.
2. If no power or standby check main fuse, standby power supply and any signsof damage you can see---burnt parts etc.
3. almost all these sets the troubleshooting involves checking voltages on the main power board to narrow down theproblem.
4. Be safe and if you do not know what you are doing don't open the set.

Answers to issues:

1. RE:fuses---if a blown fuse is found get a good replacement(not the genericones like Radio Shack). Many fuses are special even aside from amperage--Don'tput a higher rated amperage fuse in the set for any reason.

2. RE: power supply in set: if total dead aside from main fuse the set uses astandby power supply that runs 7/24 and a main supply (some are combined andsome not.

Here aside from checking fuses you want to examine all the filter caps on thepower/standby to see if any are puffed up or buldged up in some fashion--Iattach a photo of a good one---top should be silver metal and PERFECTLY flatand have no brown material coming out on top or bottom.

What happens in the standby area is they use caps with too low a voltage rating(saves money) which causes them to fail in a year or two---the standby runs7/24 and the heat dries out the caps and they fail.

3. Trouble shooting consists of the above and then at some point you have to buyand try a board to see if it fixes it or not.

4. Safety first--no TV set is worth getting injured or even killed over.If set is opened at least look for puffed up and bad caps like in thisphoto.6_3_2012_1_48_15_pm.jpg6_3_2012_1_48_47_pm.jpg

Toshiba tv won't turn off/ stay on

Try unplugging your television for a half an hour or so. It might reset to original settings, Your problem might be input lock features. If you can get to the menu after unplugging your tv for awhile we might be on the right track. I'm just looking thru a Toshiba manual that I have.
