Most important is to register with amazon. IF you have not created an account at Amazon.com, you will need to do that first. Then you can register your paperwhite there or From paperwhite. tap the 3line icon on the right. tap settings, Start with Registration and Household. If this device has been registered it will say registered to: and name and ask if you wish to deregister. If it has not been registered tap and enter you info. You will need to know your amazon account name and password. If you have other people in the house that will be allowed limited access you can set up space for them. Device options will let you set up things you want your kindle to do. I set my Reading options all of them off. I set Airplane mode to off. You only need to set-up Wi-Fi if you wish to download from the store while away home. You can read anything that has been added to you library, anytime and anywhere.
