My Simpson Eziset 550 top loading washing machine only agitates one way then clicks backwards. The clothes tangle around the spindle. Is this easy to repair or do I need a new washing machine

either a clutch problem or a faulty capacitor which is easy to replace it is located under the top control panel a round unit with a wire connector going to each side
With the bolt out the agitator should just pull up and out. Sometimes they are stuck on the shaft & you have to pull and try to move side to side to get them off. On a few occasions I have struck some that some fool has super glued them on to the shaft. In those cases I have had to break the agitator and install a new one. Just cut the shoe lace. It should be okay.
you need a 10mm socket and some extensions and a ratchet take the fabric softer filter out and undo the ,bolt at the bottom of the agitator and lift out
Bleach goes in the left hand side portal softener is put in top of agitator an washing powder I normally dissolve at start when machine filling before putting items in
Hi just read your posting. Now does the washing tangle around the agitator? In your posting you mentioned the washing not distributing around the drum.Could you confirm that your machine is a top loader for me,because the word "drum and distribute" are terms for a front loader. If your machine is a top loader which I think it is then the problem could be your brake arm or spin coil is not operating. Please reply and let me know if the clothes are tangling around the agitator.Looking forward to your reply.
If you can use a lollipop stick to operate the lid switch while you leave the lid open, you will be able to observe if the agitator is going smoothly back and forth EVENLY or not. If it is tending to turn just one way....this will tangle the clothing like mad! If this is the problem it could be the switching module or capacitor that needs replacing.
