Technics Surround Receiver - Clicks, but doesn't function

I have a http://www.audioreview.com/mfr/technics/a-v-receivers/sa-gx350/PRD_124037_2718crx.aspx">Technics SA-GX350 5-channel surround sound receiver. The service manual can be found http://www.eserviceinfo.com/downloadsm/33514/Technics_SA-GX350.html">here.
This is a great receiver and has been working for a long time. I bought it at a yard sale about 7 years ago and have never had any problems with it. Then all of a sudden, about a week ago, it stopped working. I press the power button and I hear a click coming from either the transformer or somewhere around it. Nothing else happens. The display doesn't light up, no sound comes out of the speakers; nothing.
I took it apart and inspected it the best that I could. The only problem I found was two 330 ohm resistors that appeared to have blown. I replaced them, but this did not fix the problem.
No fuses are blown, and none of the components (besides the afore-mentioned resistors) appear to be damaged.
I don't know what's wrong with it, and I would love to get it working. This is a very good receiver (at least for my budget), and I hope I can find a solution.
Thank you

The resistors that I changed are designated R369 R370.

Thank you very much for your assistance. I really appreciate it. I'll be so grateful if we can get this to work.

There could be a number of reasons for this. It woyld help if you could indicate what resistors you changed. The circuit designation should be marked on the PC board. Please post those here and I'll look further and provide some possible solutions.

Thanks,
Dan

Thanks for the update. I'll check my records in the morning and post the most probable defective components.

Can you have just 2 channel by hooking up to right & left front speaker posts on 5.1 surround

short answer.....no. If you hook more than one speaker up to a single channel, it will lower the impedence and will damage the amp. You can hook up multiple speakers by using a speaker switch box between the speakers and the amp. This will match the impedence and should keep the amp from blowing.

Surround Sound System Settings ---- Correct Time Delay Setting in Multi-channel Audio

A correctly set surround sound system can yield dramatic improvements to your
home theater sound or multi-channel music listening experience. In particular,
a correctly set time delay setting between the different channels is essential
for a realistic and unified surround soundfield.
Luckily, most of today's surround processors make setting the time delays
between the rear and the fronts a matter of a few entries in the setup menu.
Yet having a proper understanding of the principles behind correct time delay
settings is essential for the best results.
In this guide, we explain the principles behind time delay settings in surround
sound and show you how to adjust your surround processor or AV receiver for the
best surround sound field.

Time Delay Setting in Multi-channel Surround Sound Systems

Correct home theater speaker placement and properly balanced sound levels
between the different channels in multi-channel audio, while crucial, are not
enough to sustain a unified soundfield in a surround sound setup. A correctly
set surround sound system requires that sound from all the different speakers
reach the listener at exactly the same instant.
This explains why all fronts, left, right and center channel speakers, should
be set at exactly the same distance from the listening position. At the same
time, in a typical home theater setup, the surround speakers are closer to the
viewer than the fronts.

To compensate for this distance discrepancy, surround sound playback systems
apply a split-second delay to the surround sound channels.

How do I stop the hum coming from my surround sound speakers

You have a ground loop, most probably. Try grounding your receiver by running a copper wire to the screw on the electrical outlet.

Digital optical output for technics 5.1 surround sound receiver

I went to the HDTV plasma manual. It stated the only way the digital optical audio output would work (from this TV) was to go to the menu, select audio and turn off the TV speakers. Basically, it had nothing to do with the technics receiver.

No surround Technics SA-AX530

There is likely separate gain controls for your surround channels on this receiver and they are probably set at -10dB. Enter the setup menu labled "level" and increase the amount for each channel equally.

My Panassonic SA-XR50 Receiver is not producing surround sound from either of the Optical imputs from the TV or DVDR Both outputs are stereo L and R + subwoofer How do I rectify this What settings should I...

First enable the surround sound mode for the selected input and verify that the media playing is recorded in some mode of surround sound.
You can however, acheive surround sound from 2 channel sources with dolby prologic or prologicII sound processing, or other proprietary modes that your receiver might have from the manufacturer.

Technics surround sound system

Use whatever TV sound output conforms to your receiver's input. If an optical or coaxial digital sound output is available, that is the way to get 5.1 surround sound through the SA-DX1050. But you have to assign the correct input (COAX, OPT1 or OPT2) to the selector (TV, DVD, CD). See pp 12-13 of the operationg instructions for D-Input instructions. If you don't have the manual you can download it at Panasonic.com.
