If in doubt take it to a service centre and have it checked out. Some of these wall chargers are known to be copies that are fakes and therefore dangerous. Most chargers will of course get hot, but if you have only had it for a short time it should not be discoloured. If you have had for over five years then over time it might change colour.

While charging the unit becomes hot near the top of the remote. The screen then has a blacked out circle in it.when the unit cools the screen returns to normal. Can this be repaired?

Yes, if you can get inside the remote control. For some reason the power management circuit is overheating and this is overheating the display. If it happens too many times, it could ruin the display. Fortunately, you know exactly where the hot part is; the only question is whether the part itself is the problem or something else is causing it to run hot.

If the hot part is the battery, you definitely want to get it repaired. The charger may be running at a dangerously high rate, or the battery is defective (assuming the temperature exceeds safe limits; some heating is normal). Check your warranty. Report this problem immediately to the manufacturer for possible recall action, even if the warranty has expired, and include the Product ID number as well as the model number (more information is provided on the manufacturer's page). Overheating batteries can explode, so they are considered a safety hazard.

6 month old dell inspiron 1764 says can not identify a/c power adapter works with only the battery and works with charger will maintain around 50% but not charge

HI there,

In most instances, just as you've described yours, the culprit is usually the charger. It's not uncommon for the charging system in the charger to cease to function while the power function continues to work. This is particularly true of Dell chargers.

If the laptop is still under warranty, call Dell Support and they'll almost surely send you a new charger because this problem is considered to be a possible safety hazard.

Since Dell's standard factory warranty is for 1 year, they should be able to help you. If not, and you have to purchase a new battery on your own, be sure to purchase ONLY a Dell charger

Discolored terminal on cord

Check the dryer power cord for any signs of melting or charring. It could just be a loose connection. Then.....

Check the wall plug - there's a possibility the wall socket is either worn or the wiring to the socket isn't tight. The socket will need to be removed to check this, so make sure the power is off first.

Burning hot oven door

As far as I'm concerned this is a safety hazard and not acceptable be any means. No oven face should reach temperatures that can cause serious harm to the consumer. For some reason the door is not releasing the hot air built up between the glass sheets. When the oven is running, can you feel hot air escaping through the top of the door ? Also, is there hot air coming out at the sides of the door ?
