Okay, do you have it through a HDMI or AV cable? Whoever used it before you have the settings on either HDMI or AV, which means if you are using the other one, the video will not come up Its a bit hard to explain but you should hook up both HDMI and AV and find out which one it is coming through, then change the setting to whichever one you want
Yes you can. If you have more than 1 HDMI sources and your old system only has 1 HDMI in, you may want to invest in an HDMI switch. They are inexpensive (under $20 on Amazon) and let you choose 4 HDMI sources to feed your system. The audio is embedded in HDMI and you may have to select the choices (surround versus stereo) when you play the disc.
Your only choice is most likely a 3.5mm minijack cable. Take the laptop to a Radishack and make sure that cable will fit. The Sony should have an input for that cable even if it is the headphone jack. If your laptop has other audio outputs like an RCA or hdmi, which is unlikely, you would connect one of those cables between it and the Sony (Sony's input).
Hi,here is my simple solution... If
you want to listen your TV on your Stereo system thru your receiver,
** you need to connect "Audio Output " RCA jacks or "Optic cable output" of your TV ** to "AUX input "
or "TV" OR "Any input" of your receiver ( except Phone ) or "Optic Cable input" ** than just switch to
respective mode on RECEIVER corresponding your RCA or Optic connection... There you go..Your TV sound is on the Receiver..By this means whatever you watch on the TV (tuner, satellite , Xbox ) ,it's sound will come thru your stereo..
Hope this helps! Take care and please Remember to rate/vote and give me 4 Thumbs Up for me to continue for Helping out the Community :)
Yes this can be done. You have several options for audio hookup. Stereo 2-channel (white and red) RCA cables, digital audio (optical or coaxial) or HDMI. Your home theater must have the inputs available such as optical, coaxial etc. Typically the stereo 2-channel RCA is the simple way. Just connect from the Bluray audio outputs to the Home theater inputs (white and red) for stereo sound. Select the input on the home theater. For Dolby Digital 5.1 use optical digital audio cable (black port) or coaxial (orange RCA port) from Bluray to similar home theater input.
Not certain if HDMI can be used in a setup like this. I'd try it from the home theater (HT) to the TV, and other wiring for the other components.
For video: All of these should have component connections (Y/Pr/Pb). You'll only need the video cables for each device:
Video out from cable, HT, and combo player.
Video in to TV. Your choice of inputs.
For audio: Hopefully, the two output devices (the combo player and the cable box) have digital audio (fiber optic, or RCA coaxial). Otherwise, you'll only get stereo sound. VHS is stereo only anyway.
Audio out from cable box and combo player.
Audio in to HT.
The TV won't have anything to do with audio in this setup. Alternatively, you could try hooking up all inputs to the TV, and connecting audio out from the TV to the HT. Works best if this connection is digital, for surround.
DVI = HDMI without the audio connectors. So basically you need to connect your audio in some different way, PS3s allow you to keep your video signal as HDMI and change the Audio signal to component, so that is one way or doing it, not sure if the blue ray players allow you to do this though.
