Unplugging for several minutes or shutting off the breaker does not help reset either fridge. Any ideas other than calling the repair guy once again.
If the compressor happened to be running when the power surge happened, it's possible the motor inside the compressor has failed. There are safety devices on the compressor that may have gone bad too. The electronics in the controller don't do well in surges, so that may be the problem too. It all comes down to how much the repairs will cost added to what you already have done to it against the cost of a new unit.

Is there any mechanical reset on the compressor/motor or is it all internal and would just need to be replaced?
