First, I'm not a AMAZON Kindle Tech.
* If it is "Open" (unlocked) then charge it up using the micro USB slot.
* If you can turn it on and the main menu goes on. Swipe the "Padlock" icon to open. Then swipe from top to bottom to get the menu display (for Kindle fire), Paper white will need to press the mode button (only button on the face of pad)
* If this is still a registered device then the regular menu will pop up and you will need to access the device menu by swiping top of screen downward. Select "+More" which will pull up the "Settings" menu. Select "My Account". Select "Deregister" continue and set up your Amazon account.
* If you want to wipe everything and reset the kindle (as giving it away to someone else) then go to "Settings" menu and select "Device". Select "Reset to Factory Defaults" then follow instructions. This will wipe all data and your account info as well as emails, bank records, etc.
* Resetting the Kindle to factory will be the same as if you just bought it from the store. It will automatically go through the welcome screen and help you set up your kindle and give a short beginner's course.

To transfer content from your computer to your Kindle, use the USB cable you received with your device.
1.Go to Manage Your Content and Devices.
2.Under Your Content, select the item that you want to transfer and click the Actions button next to the title.
3.From the pop-up window, click Download & transfer via USB.
To delete books tap and hold the title of the book you wish to delete then select "remove from device."
Alternately you can delete them from your Kindle account in your online settings and then they will be removed from the device the next time you sync but that may permanently delete the item from your collection.
That sounds like a call Kindle help. I noticed when I tried it on my paper white that I needed my old pass code to set a new one. Online Amazon.com, your acct, Manage your Kindle, help desk near bottom of list on left side.
