The Navy, Army and Marines have recruits drop out at roughly the same rate, between 11 and 14 percent. If you are a swimmer and runner then you are in better shape than 90% of the other recruits. Boot camp is also a mental challenge. The goal is to train you to have discipline, teamwork, and strong success driven attitude. If you are really worried, talk to a Marine recruiter. They have pre-bootcamp workout sessions that will give you a taste of what to expect.
If you are in uniform you have to salute a superior officer but saluting indoors is strictly forbidden unless you are formally reporting to said officer so yes you will need to salute their rank

I recommend joining the Air Force if you want to become a pilot however, people don't just become pilots after having a Bachelors. You have to meet the requirements, pass the exams and be medically cleared and in shape, this applies to all branches. On the other hand its a challenge that only you can decide.
