You should receive updates automatically If you go into settings on the top click on General then scroll down to the bottom of the left hand column then click about device then on the right at the top is software update click that it will show when it was last updated under that is Auto update make sure you have that checked then you will always have the latest updates.
if you go back to about device you can then see model number, android version and other details. I have android version 4.4.2 at the moment everyone gets the latest updates at different times you just need some patience.

To update you on my Nexus7 not connecting to the Internet was solved by pressing the button on my router and also pressing the two arrows (that form a circle on my Nexus) at the same time and it connects right away.I hope this helps other people with the same problem.....Colin Bett
