My acer aspire e5 517 laptop has a black screen. Power light comes on and screen flickers a little but nothing more. What can be the problem?

The backlight has failed. You cannot separate it from the screen, so you'll have to replace the screen. You can get replacement screens by googling Acer laptop screen replacements. You may find a You Tube video that shows you how to replace it, too.

Black screen on acer aspire 9300
Hello, have you tried reseating the memory, taking out memory and installing another? It could be a faulty memory module and if it isnt that sounds like the graphics processor on the motherboard is faulty. That requires advanced soldering skills. Hope this helps.

Try taking the battery out and booting it on AC power only, if it boots up turn it back off and reinsert the battery, turn the computer on, if it boots up all good, if not please post back.

Brand new acer aspire one 8.9. power conneted and battery. press power button and nothing comes one. battery light is green, but screen is black.
refix your battery again.
Also if u get power up press F8 key then go to enablwe vga mode.
