I have a Phillips TV model 42PFL7422D/37. It has sound and no picture.
After reading the online forums; I did shine a flashlight on the black screen. It DOES NOT have shadows or images when I do this. What could be the problem; part needed?

The first thing I would try is to disconnect the tv from the power source. Wait five minutes before plugging it back into the wall socket. Turn the tv back on and see if you get a display. Try changing the channel and switching inputs. See if you can get it to display anything at all. You could shine a flashlight at the screen and see if you can make out an image. If you see an image with a flashlight then your backlight is out.
Is your tv less than a year old? If it is less than a year old you are still under the manufacturer's warranty. I would see if Best Buy would honor the manufacturer's warranty in store. If that is not the case they should give you a number to contact Insignia directly.
If your tv is out of warranty, it may be cheaper to replace it. I would do your homework and check the price of a repair vs the price of a new tv.
Try to to put-off your lights and see if you have slight illumination on the screen, if it does, its the t-con board. If totally none, you have to change your Inverter board.
If the backlight of the LCD-panel does not function, (no picture) then Master and/or Slave inverter are defective. Inverter boards are screwed to both sides of the LCD display, if they have revision 1.2 boards then they will need replaced with revision 1.3 boards.
You have a bad filter capacitor! In a dark room, powerup your TV and shine a flashlight on the screen. Can you see a picture? Sometimes the power inverter is not powering up. And sometimes you will see a picture with your flashlight. But chances are you will need a 25volt 2200MF Cap replaced!
Could be the signal board has a bad cap, in this case it sounds like you are getting intermitten power to the inverters....when the tv goes down and of course you have audio....Shine a flashlight on to screen and see if you have a picture...look carefully. If this is the case..you have the above problem!
