This tip applies to any Linksys wireless router.
First you need to access the router control panel , and check wireless settings.
Therouter control panel is accessed connecting a computer to the router. This is done using an Ethernet cable, and entering router IP address in Internet Explorer address bar.
Here the cable:
Here the procedure.
Connect router to computer using a network cable (LAN cable with RJ45 connector).
On computer open Internet explorer and type router IP in the address bar (where you use to typewww.this.that ).The IP address is indicated on router user manual. Ifit has not been changed, 192.168.1.1 is the default for LinkSys brand home broadband routers. Press enter after typing the IP.
Enter router user name and passord. On older LinkSys routers, the default username is blank and the default password is "admin." On newer LinkSys routers, both the default usernameand the password are "admin". If that does not work, then defaultsettings had been changed. In that case you will need to reset therouter. See:
Reset a LinkSys Router Password.
After entering right ID and password you will open the router control pane as HTML page in Internet Explorer.
In the router control panel choose the wireless setting tab to see or modify the password:
If you do not need to change wireless settings, then write down the encryption key, and set the same key on the laptop. Once the right key is set on the laptop, the connection will start automatically.
If more computersare connecting to this network, then do not reset or change thewireless settings. Simply write down the key on paper and setup thelaptop.
Remember that WAP encryption keys are case sensitive, Wep encryption keys are not.
The simplest encryption to choose is WEP.
WEP means wireless encryption key.
Open the router panel, go to wireless, and find key settings or set your own key.
If you have to set the key:
If you choose WEP 64, then the key that you need to set will be 10 characters key made by numbers and letters from A to F.
Close Internet Explorer to get out of the Linksys control panel.
Regards.
