Sir

Checking or verifying the wireless settings of your Linksys Cable Gateway is important when connecting wireless devices to your network. This is the best route to take if you are unsure of your gateway's wireless settings.
The wireless settings that you need to take note of are:
  • SSID
  • SSID Broadcast
  • Wireless Security
To check the wireless settings on the Linksys gateway follow the steps below:
Step 1:
Access the gateway's web-based setup page. For instructions, click here. If you are using a Maccomputer to access the cable gateway's web-based setup page, click here.
Step 2:
Click the Wireless tab.

Step 3:
Look for Wireless Network Name (SSID). It is recommended to change the SSID to something unique.

Step 4:
Click the Wireless Security sub-tab and take note of the current Wireless Encryption Level and the Wireless SSID Broadcast if it is set to Enable or Disable.

If Wireless Encryption Level is set to No Encryption, this means that the wireless security on the gateway is disabled.
If Wireless Encryption Level is set to 64 Bit Encryption or 128 Bit Encryption, check the value under Default Key and take note of the Wireless WEP Key that corresponds to it.

How do I set up the wireless network key on my linksys router?

Hi.

This tip applies to any Linksys wireless router.

First you need to access the router control panel , and check wireless settings.

Therouter control panel is accessed connecting a computer to the router. This is done using an Ethernet cable, and entering router IP address in Internet Explorer address bar.

Here the cable:

Here the procedure.

Connect router to computer using a network cable (LAN cable with RJ45 connector).

On computer open Internet explorer and type router IP in the address bar (where you use to typewww.this.that ).The IP address is indicated on router user manual. Ifit has not been changed, 192.168.1.1 is the default for LinkSys brand home broadband routers. Press enter after typing the IP.

Enter router user name and passord. On older LinkSys routers, the default username is blank and the default password is "admin." On newer LinkSys routers, both the default usernameand the password are "admin". If that does not work, then defaultsettings had been changed. In that case you will need to reset therouter. See: Reset a LinkSys Router Password.

After entering right ID and password you will open the router control pane as HTML page in Internet Explorer.

In the router control panel choose the wireless setting tab to see or modify the password:

If you do not need to change wireless settings, then write down the encryption key, and set the same key on the laptop. Once the right key is set on the laptop, the connection will start automatically.

If more computersare connecting to this network, then do not reset or change thewireless settings. Simply write down the key on paper and setup thelaptop.

Remember that WAP encryption keys are case sensitive, Wep encryption keys are not.

The simplest encryption to choose is WEP.
WEP means wireless encryption key.

Open the router panel, go to wireless, and find key settings or set your own key.

If you have to set the key:

If you choose WEP 64, then the key that you need to set will be 10 characters key made by numbers and letters from A to F.

Close Internet Explorer to get out of the Linksys control panel.

Regards.

Can't access internet, says I am connected but then says no internet connection

I think you should try to reset and reconfigure the Linksys router and see if that works.

If your Linksys router is old then you can also upgrade firmware on the router.

Connect your computer directly to the modem and make sure that you can access Internet directly through the modem.

Connect the modem and computer to the router. Open the setup page of the router and change the settings manually.

Try this website to setup your Linksys router manually.

I can also suggest you a Fiverr Gig where you can pay only $5 and get support for your Linksys router.

There are several bandwidth thieves showing up at my linksys internet access, perhaps this is the cause of poor connectivity opening up a website in most cases. How do I lock or create a new password for...

You need to configure/encrypt your wireless settings to prevent unauthorized access.
To connect to your wireless router, the router's wirelesssettings needs to be configured with the SSID, encryption etc. and also thewireless cards in all the laptops/computers needs to be configured with theserouter's wireless settings. Then the laptops/desktop computers can communicatewith your wireless router.
Connect a LAN cable from the Linksys to the LAN port on your computer.
Open a browser and enter the Linksys configuration URL
http://192.168.1.1
The default login = admin
The default PW = admin
You can protect your router by changing the default PW (write it down and putit in a safe place)
Go to the wireless configuration and set up the SSID and WPA or WPA2encryption.
Apply these settings to the wireless card in your laptop/computer.

To secure your wireless network from unauthorized access, please click on thislink and follow my instructions :- http://www.fixya.com/support/r3559128-wireless_router_security

I forgot my securiy code phone?

is it phone password or router password. do you mean wep or wpa passwork? you can access these security key by accessing your GUI in you router. just open your internet browser and type in in the url 192.168.1.1 for "linksys" router or 192.168.0.1 for other router. then go wireless and wireless security. you can find there if your are using wep or wpa access key.
In case that you dont know the password of your router. reconfigure your LinkSys, connect a PC to one of it's Ethernet ports, load a web browser, and go to the URL http://192.168.1.1/. This will take you to a popup box which asks you to enter a username and password to login to your router. On older LinkSys routers, the default username is blank and the default password is "admin." On newer Linksys routers, both the default username and the default password are set to "admin."

I've had a WRT54G router for years, but only recently have found others encroaching on my line. When I use the IP address given in my manual to access the web utility so I can password protect it, that URL...

You would lose all of your settings. However the default password should have a blank username and the password should be "admin". Give it a whirl

I forget my linksys wrt160N password. how can i open that.

In case you have forgotten the password,
ALL YOU CAN DO IS TO RESET THE ROUTER TO FACTORY SETTINGS
You may reset router to factory setting from the reset button on the back side of the router. It may be a push botton or else use a paper pin to press the button for few seconds, the lights on the front would blink and the router would restart with factory setting. Please not that ALL SETTING WOULD BE LOST...AND YOU WOULD HAVE TO MAKE CONFIGURATIONS AND SETTING ALL OVER AGAIN

HOPE IT HELPS...Let me know if you need any further assistance
