This happens with cable, streaming through Roku, and VHS. When it froze with the VHS I took the tape out of the machine and the picture was still frozen on the TV set! Help please. How do I diagnose the problem? Main board, TCON?

Most likely this is caused by a defective main board. Changing the main board will fix the issue about 95% of the time.
To be absolutely sure, the voltages need to be checked on the power supply. If they are not the values listed in the service manual, then you should replace the power supply instead (accounts for the other 5% of the time).

Most likely it is the Optical Block. It has been a issue for most of the Sony LCD Rear Projections manufactured over the last 6 plus years. Your Model may still Qualify as a factory recall. What you need to do is to get in touch with Sony's Customer Service at 1800-222-SONY and see if it does Qualify.
If not, it is a expensive repair costing 1200.00 to a 1500.00.
I hope it still does Qualify for a recall,

1.This issue sounds as though the TV connection circuit has an issue.
2. You have changed the DVR and the HDMI cables and you still have an issue with the video (pink screen) indicates a video circuit issue ( improper voltage or current) at the video section of the circuit.
3. This will require some troubleshooting by a qualified tech.
4. To make sure, try connecting another properly working LCD TV to the cable box or DVR an check. If you get a picture and sound properly it is the TV.
5. Usually a cable box is QA'd (quality assured) by the company and will not be sent unless tested 1st
