When you go to your devices and printers , right click on the ricoh printer and click on printer properties , the go to the advanced tab on top and click on it , then bottom left there should be a option for printing defaults , click on it and select the double sided option there !
Thats' the general 'attention' light when basically anything goes wrong. I've found some of these machines to be sensitive to the front/side cover switches...it may need adjusting, but if you make sure when you close the right side cover to press firmly at the top/ front of the panel (nearest you), as opposed to more towards the centre or back of the machine (which is the tendency) you may have more luck - that's where the interlock is....hopefully this helps
Sounds like you have a wireless router, but are (for some reason) plugging your laptop into it, and if it's not wireless, you should return it and get a wireless one for about the same money, that will let you use your laptop from anywhere, and the setup is often easier, as it can usually all be done via the Installation CD. You can also still plug the Aficio 1515 into the router and print wirelessly to it from your laptop, once you have it configured. Next, the Aficio 1515 printer feature included a standard usb port, so I find this a little strange. You can download the manuals here:
The 'network settings' guide will be most helpful. The two things you primarily need to be concerned with are the "IP address", and "subnet mask". Do not use "Auto", but rather set them manually, and then configure the printer driver If you don't have a basic understanding of IP addresses, and network printing, then you'll really need some help to complete the setup
Go into the advanced settings of the driver and look for the settings that tell the copier what features you have. Make sure the duplex is turned on. Normally I set these up for Windows use and I have one client who uses a Mac and he did show me that the features do exist for the print driver.
Once it is enabled the double sided printer feature should work.
The first thing to try is to turn the machine off, then back on at the red "main power" switch located on the left side of the machine. If the code returns it is indicative of firmware problems or a loose connection.
At this point I would seriously recommend getting a service tech to come out. However, if you want, you can take off the back cover (MAKE SURE THE POWER CORD IS UNPLUGED) and double check all of the connections by (GENTLY) pressing them into their connections. Hope this helps. Let me know.
If the print can be rubbed off then this suggests the fuser unit is not working correctly. It could be that the thermistor is covered with toner and making the machine think the fuser is hot enough when it's not.
The black line could also be caused by the fuser if one of the pick off fingers is coated with toner or has worn into the Teflon of the roller.
Does the machine show the lines when you print a page from memory - such as a counter or config page? If not, this would suggest the optical path is dirty. Try cleaning the glass and look at the mirrors inside the scanner to see if they are dirty/dusty.
