Sony fb3 boad kdl40v3000 Our tv would not turn on except the flashing standby light. Technician told us we need to replace the fb3 board. The cost is $395 for the board and $185 labor. Is this reasonable? The tv is only 1 1/2 years young. Also, I found a website that sells the same part taken from another tv for $75. How do I know if the technician is giving us a new part or a used part and charging us the $395?

Ok sounds like you need a technician to look at it due to a transformer failure. Keep me posted

Information from Sony:
TCON Error 5X
Communications have been lost between the video processor on the FB3 board and the TCON (TFT Control) board which is part of the LCD panel. This can be caused by a defective FB3 board, a defective LVDS cable, or a TCON failure.

Power supply problems. check SMPs and other feed back voltage signals.

You might have a bad B board. What's worse is that the power switch is connected to the Q board which works in conjunction with the B board. Replace B board, You can send your B board for repair to a company called modus link pts. They are the largest part supplier of after market parts and repair.

Sonys are known for this. The tv may be going into shut down because a circuit such as the power supply cirucuit or high voltage may need repair. Call a service man, you probably only need a portion of the circuit repaired not the whole board!

prolly u need the "D" board replaced--common to give error code of 5 to 6 flashes--unplug and wait to reset and try again

A service technician arrived at my home this morning and infromed me that 13 blinks indicates a bad LCD panel. His quote to repair it was approximately $500 more than the TV initially cost. I contacted Sony support directly, and they have agreed to replace the TV, since it is less than 30 days out of warranty. The KDL40V3000 has apparently been dicontinued so they are replacing with a KDL40V4100(factory reconditioned). I know this won't necessarily help others with the same problem, but if your warranty ended recently enough they will probably work with you to mitigate the expense.

I just had almost the same problem wiht my Sony KDR60XBR1, except TV would turn off about 3-4 times/hr, and always go back on after 30 sec, with standby light flashing. Looked at suggestions here (on FIXya), so tried changing out the lamp as others had done, and to my amazement it worked - no more switching off! And a better picture! So a great, cheap, easy solution to this common problem.

This indicates a short happened somewhere in the set, causing the set to go into "safe mode" where it won't let itself turn on. Oftentimes it's the convergence board. Depending on what that will cost you, you may want to just replace the set.
