Epson in their traditional genius do not want you to use your printer anymore so a deal with microsoft saw restrictions placed on the driver so that you cannot read your ink levels. They want you to buy a printer that is new with new drivers for windows 7. Guess what happens when Windows 8 comes along. I am in the same boat and have started changing to another printer brand. So far I have scrapped 6 working epson printers and changed to Canon. They tend to look after their clients a bit better.
Hello, you may need to update your printer at epson's website, or reinstall it. here's the link to epsons drivers homepage:

Well, since you say you'll be using new cartridges you shouldn't have
any nozzle problems. About the worst case I can see would be the slight
chance of getting too much ink on the paper resulting in wet paper and
a stained platten roller. Seems like an interesting experiment over all.
Nozzle problems arise when reusing cartridges. The very thin metal film
that is the nozzle assembly gets worn down as the print head moves over
paper and after a number of pages printed the little holes that are the
nozzles get larger making for fuzzy, wetter than it should be, streaky
printing.
Attention Windows Vista Users If you have installed your printer on your PC using an original Lexmark Driver CD that came with your product and you are experiencing problems when printing, you may have installed the Windows XP driver.
Follow these steps to resolve: · 1) Disconnect your USB cable from your printer. · 2) Uninstall all Lexmark printer drivers on your PC. · 3) Download the correct Vista driver for your model. · 4) While leaving the USB unconnected, Install the driver on your PC.
Important - Do not reconnect the USB cable until the install software prompts the question of how the printer is connected.
