I had this problem, it turns out if you push the power button too hard you will bend the tab the switch is attached to under the rubber cover. I had to open mine up and bend it back to the correct position. I then added a piece of small cardboard to support the switch and prevent this from happening again.
Try using half-used batteries. If you are using brand new lithiums, it provides too much voltage to the unit and it will shut down immediately upon startup and the screen will fade out. To rule this solution out, hook the unit up to a computer with the USB cable and try starting it up. If it works, that's likely your problem.
Return for warranty repair or replacement
