Paloma tankless water heater, 2 yrs old, C7 76 error code. How do I fix this?
If you look on the left hand side of the burner control module you'll see 4 capacitors - the capacitors have most likely failed...pretty sure anything code 76 is P/S failure. It may also be covered for manufactures defects. If the cap is blown..the top will be slightly raised as apposed to flat like the other nearby caps - they are called top blow capacitors...the damage should be evident.
Contact Paloma/Rheem customer (800-432-8373) support and notify them IF you are getting a code "76" error. Rheem has recently extended the warranty on the "Burner Control Assm."; which is your problem. The C4-C8 portion of the error code, is where the unit stops the ignition process...burner fails to light, or gives you intermittent hot water. In either case, contact customer support .
If this helps, please indicate so.

Even though the original post by JZKlipper is over 2 years ago, and his comment is from a year ago, I called this morning his information still holds true for May of 2011. My capacitors are clearly raised on the top. This is funnily enough, the 4th item at home that have had blown caps, that I have replaced myself. This control board I have left for Rheem to repair though as it is till in warranty.
I just called Paloma and as soon as I said code 76, he said we'll send you a new control board and replacement instructions. It's a controller error that needs to be fixed by replacing the PCB. I looked at the four capacitors (green with silver top) and two of them had a yellowish-white crust on top of them.
Yep, I'm looking at them right now. They are blown and leaking. I was not expecting the whole board to be coated in a glue, however! I'll call and see if I can get a replacement free. If not, I may have to hack it from the other side. I'll post a photo.
Just called. They're sending a board and a tech.

My Paloma tankless water heater had a code of C7 - 76. I called the service center at 866-720-2076 and they stated this code showed a communication error between the Water Heater and the thermostat; they stated it was still under warrantee and they would replace it for free. Also, I found out there was a recall related to the door properly shutting. To make it work while waiting for the repair, I would turn off the thermostat, wait 2-3 minutes, and turn it back on. Usually it would work for enough time to shower.
It's the remote controller remove it(the remote controller wires) and see if it kicks on and works fine, if not you have more problems! it would probably be the printed circuit board
My Paloma tankless hotwater heater is not producing hot water. I get error message C 8 76. What does this mean?
JZKlipper was correct. Rheem is delivering me the control board.
I have error codes ao21 and 76 on a gas heater. the unit will give hot water for 4-5 min and turn off. can any one help
On a Paloma 42PVN, 2006 model, we got the C7 76 error. After collecting serial number etc. they arranged shipping of a replacement board and professional installation on their nickle without batting an eye. Good on them!
I am getting error c4 76. Can anyone help?

I just talked to Rheem at 800-432-8373. They are sending out a circuit board and "As a courtesy, a technician to install it". They were very helpful. I certainly would recommend trying them first.
I second what rpatterson said. Soon as I mentioned that code, he said it was the pcb board and they are over-nighting the new board and will have it installed free of charge! Talk about service! Also, it if I turn the unit off and back on, I typically can get a shower in before it stops working again.
