SOURCE: can't reopen circular reference file in excel

  1. Click the Microsoft Office Button , click Excel Options, and then click the Formulas category.
  2. In the Calculation options section, select the Enable iterative calculation check box.
  3. To set the maximum number of times that Excel will recalculate, type the number of iterations in the Maximum Iterations box. The higher the number of iterations, the more time that Excel needs to calculate a worksheet.
  4. To set the maximum amount of change you will accept between calculation results, type the amount in the Maximum Change box. The smaller the number, the more accurate the result and the more time that Excel needs to calculate a worksheet.

You can trick Excel into allowing the circular reference by using the steps provided in this other Fixya post here:

Why has it stopped working?

Apparently in some cases all you need to do is start Excel/Word/Powerpoint/Outlook as Administrator in order to get permissions to do something on the computer. If you're using Windows 7, right-click the application in the Start Menu and click "Run as administrator". See if this works for you.

In Windows 8, open the Home screen, find the application you're trying to open; right-click it and select "Open as administrator" at the bottom.
. If you are still experiencing the issue I can suggest this program Excel Repair Toolbox

How to Recover an Excel File for Free

1.Check the Recycle Bin--if you've accidentally deleted the file, it should still be there unless you've emptied the bin, and you can click on the file and recover it.

2.Use the Auto Recovery Pane when you open Excel. Review the document recovery pane. If Excel has managed to recover your file, it will show in a separate pane on the left-hand side. Identify your document in the pane, then click on it and choose "Open" to open the recovered file.

3.Try manually repairing the file. Click on "File" in Excel 2003 or the "Office" button in
Excel 2007, then select "Open" and click on the arrow next to the "Open" button. Click on
"Open and Repair" and choose from two options: click on "Repair" if you want to try to completely recover the file, or click on "Extract Data" if you previously tried Step 1 and it did not work.

4.Search for the file manually on your computer. When performing a system search (click "Start" and select "Search" in Windows XP and Windows 2000, or press the "Windows" button and "F" key in Windows 7 and Vista), make sure you choose "Advanced Search Options" and then check the "System and hidden files" check box. You may be able to find your missing or corrupted file using this search: double-click on the file name in the search results to open it.

Excel file problem

Two possibilities:
  1. You accidentally save it as an HTM or HTML file. It will still open in Excel if so. Open the file in Excel and do a Save As back to an XLS (Excel 97-2003 version file) or XLSX (Excel 2007 - 2013 version file).
  2. You associated XLS or XLSX files to be opened with CometBird. If so, right click on the file and choose "Open With," then go to the bottom of the choices and left-click on "Choose default program..." Then choose Excel and you should be all set. Windows will reassociate all your files to automatically open with Excel instead of CometBird.

open Excel
Click the 'Microsoft Office' button and click 'Excel Options'. Click the 'Formulas' button. From 'Calculation options' section, un-select the 'Automatically' option. then use file->open->yourfile.xlsx. It should now open. Find the circular reference and fix it. Then save the file.

Clicking cancel will invalidate the formulae, circular references refer to the dependant and precedent cells using each other.

Track/ Audit depending on your Excel version to show which formulae is incorrect - or options view, tick show formaulae and remove them.

Excel wont open the file?

Is it MS Office 2003 ?
Can you open Excel by clicking on it's icon?
If so, go to Control Panel>Add/Remove programs> scroll down to Microsoft Office 2003. Click on change. A box will open up and you and choose "repair and fix". Let it run . it should fix it.

If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it.

Circular reference errer in excal file in office 2007 Problem. when i open excal seet and whant to change and save. then pc show problem? ple help me shamsherpatel

Hi shamsherpate

In order to remove this error message you need to locate and remove the incorrect references:

On the Formulas tab, in the Formula Auditing group, click the arrow on the Error Checking in-group button, point to Circular References, and then click the first cell listed in the submenu.

Tip You can move between cells in a circular reference by double-clicking the tracer arrows.
Review the formula in the cell. If you cannot determine whether the cell is the cause of the circular reference, click the next cell in the Circular References submenu.

Note The status bar displays the word "Circular References" followed by a reference to one of the cells contained in the circular reference.
Continue to review and correct the circular reference until the status bar no longer displays the word "Circular References."

Regards,
TheAssembler
