did you check the cord first? after that I would check the brushes and make sure the switch wired correctly. Let me know if you need more assistance.

Bosch Brute Jackhammer. I used the wrong cord and after a while it began to smoke and smell like something burned. What could be the cause of this and what should I do? Thank you in advance.

Using a different cord wouldn't cause that issue to the tool. Your problem is something inside, UNLESS you used a 5 amp cord, in which case you are melting the cord, not damaging the drill. Just get a proper 15 amp cord for it.

The breaker hammer doesn't need a compressor, running on any 115/120V AC/DC, 15-AMP outlet or 2,500-watt portable generator.

Can a bad trigger cause my Bosch brute jackhammer not to run correctly

First to look for faultering contacts on electric field and carbon brushes sometimes a suppression capacitor can give some problems a worn commutator on the armature a switch can be overhauled with a direct cable contact to test to know if it is the switch test it out only with 2 persons for safety in that case.

My hitachi jackhammer runs slow and gets hot

The armature AND electric field must together replaced to get a safe working again, and the defect will not repeat if it be shure have its operating hours on it and give a full service.

My jackhammer will not run, the cord and switch are good

Check your brushes. The brushes on the Brute breaker have a spring loaded, non-conductive pin in them. When either brush wears down far enough the pin pops out and prevents damage to the expensive armature. If by chance the brushes are OK you may have to have your armature tested.
